Mixed bag unfortunately for me and our group of 8 mid to low handicap golfers from Dublin.. Food on both occasions was average at best when we had lunch and dinner in the clubhouse.. not one person in the group was overly happy with their food.. found a couple of waitresses were rude and the other staff were lovely and very friendly... Overall the clubhouse was lovely and a very well stocked pro shop was great to pick up a few treats.. Now to the golf.. Cashen course on the first day was enjoyable.. extremely short but great fun to play.. very quirky set up with some crazy tee shots.. no use for driver apart from maybe 1 or 2 holes... we were blessed with the weather.. zero wind and very warm.. couldn’t ask for more.. the cashen is good fun to get you ready for the old course.. only issue with the cashen was the greens running very slow.. other than that it’s hard not to enjoy it.. quirky, short, and fun Old course was the reason put Ballybunion on our rotary in the first place... again the weather conditions were stunning... started of great with the friendly Starter on the first tee.. lovely man.. first few holes are along the road adjacent to the course which were good but nothing special.. then after you walk by the tuck shop roughly about the 6th or 7th that’s when you get the experience the hype about the old course.. which in no other terms was stunning.. some cracking holes.. the scenery was out of this world.. the old course is in a different league compared to the cashen and is a must if your ever in Kerry.. To sum up our trip.. we stayed in Teach De Broc across the road from Ballybunion and we’re treated first class.. beautiful couple run the place and the food there was streets ahead of Ballybunion clubhouse.. the golf was very enjoyable especially on the old course back 9 which was stunning... the cashen course is great fun and well worth given it a go.. only minor issues with the overall rating but worth noting and taken into account

Old Course: As expected, the facilities were world class. The day we played was windy but otherwise perfect. Again, this is a pro championship caliber course and a must play on any Ireland golf trip. Having caddies was critical and helped keep it fun. Some of the views of the ocean are out of this world. The first hole borders a graveyard... (insert joke) others wind through hulking dunes. Similar to the others... it can be pretty tough out there so just go out and have fun and soak it all in. Cashen Course: We played it after a quick lunch following the old course and honestly it was not that far off from being as nice as the Old Course. We were lucky and were able to take buggies (to carry around a few cases of beer and our tired bodies). The best way to compare the quality (not style)of the two courses would be like Bethpage Black to Red. Again some of the holes on the ocean were incredible. All in all, our crew would probably rate our day here as the most fun 36 holes on our trip. Definitely play the Cashen course... you won't regret it.

Excellent golf with great views on some holes but we were disappointed that the greens were hollow tinned just three days before and they were SLOW. Our caddies Jamie and Jamie, both on their summer breaks, were exceptional. They were great at reading the lines and got on with the group very well. There were alot of laughs shared during the game! The Clubhouse is beautiful and you can look out onto the 18th. The Pro Shop was pretty well stocked and the food at the Bar was yummy too! May return for a game and hopefully this time, the greens will play better.

Every golf destination should use Ballybunion as a template for what quality service looks like. I was greeted and spoken to by name from the front entrance, the practice facilities were the best I’ve ever encountered, and the light breakfast before my round was impeccable. The round itself was in its own league, inexplicably beautiful property made even more enjoyable by the guidance and general chit chat with my caddy, Morris. Amazing lunch menu and well poured Guinness. Worth coming from Australia just for today, thanks to all the staff involved.

The best of the best. I have been lucky enough to play most of the great courses in the Republic of Ireland and for me Ballybunion is the best of them all. The course has amazing views, great elevation changes and some of the best green complexes anywhere. The staff there is kind and courteous, which you don't always get at a premier course and I have heard that they have upgraded the practice facility since I was last there. Ballybunion in pure class and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to play a bucket list course.
