The fort had opened the week before after renovations and I was keen to see the place. It was a beautiful sunny day. Perfect for exploring the fort. Staff were extremely friendly, courteous & helpful and you could tell, they enjoy being there.... One thing left the fort down though. I like to know the history of a place and when exploring, there are very little or no signs expanding what room your in, what was it used for or any history around it. Whereas on a trip to Spike Island, they have detailed info attached to all areas, giving you a brief history of where your at. A small fix but would make the tour more interesting to people...Also the outside decking attached to the 15fifty cafe is fab with great views of the harbour. Only downside here was the staff working the café. While friendly. Had no cohesion. Slow to take orders. Getting orders wrong, clearing tables etc even though it wasn't particularly busy but I reckon they will come right as the season goes on. 10e for a daily pass for my daughter & I. You can't go wrong and well...
Read moreWe recently took our family to Camden Fort Meagher in Crosshaven, and it was an absolute blast! The fort is a sprawling complex with so much to explore, both above and below ground.
The kids loved running through the maze of tunnels, imagining they were soldiers defending the fort. The exhibits were informative and engaging, offering a glimpse into the fort's fascinating history. The views from the top of the fort are stunning, overlooking the harbor and the surrounding countryside.
The staff and volunteers were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, answering all of our questions and sharing interesting stories about the fort. There's a lovely café on site with delicious snacks and drinks, and the gift shop has a great selection of souvenirs.
We spent several hours exploring the fort, and it never felt crowded or overwhelming. The kids were entertained the whole time, and we all learned a lot. It's a truly unique and memorable experience that we highly recommend for families...
Read moreFinally made a trip here after wanting to visit it for a few years. Newly reopened and was amazed to find it was only 8 EUROS to get in. Having spent almost 3 hours wandering around it, it is surely GREAT VALUE. All the staff were extremely helpful, and as we walked around the various displays, it was wonderful to listen to their stories told with passion. There is so much to see and enjoy. A lot of work has been put into the displays. ( The amount of detail and information that each display contains is amazing considering a lot of the work had been done by the volunteers so a big thanks to all the volunteers too). Before leaving the Fort, we enjoyed a coffee and cake, sitting on the balcony (in glorious sunshine) of the newly opened 15 Fifty Cafe which has great views of Cork Harbour. Definitely WORTH VISITING and an ABSOLUTE BARGAIN considering the extremely cheap Entrance Fee. Will...
