What else does one do on a rainy, misty damp afternoon? Visit a local bird reserve at Harpers Island, Glounthaune, Cork and photograph water birds in a dry hide. This place is a fantastic facility. It was quiet and clean. I spent a couple of hours photographing in peace and quiet. If I were any more relaxed I would have been asleep. I recommend a visit even if you a not a birder or photographer. Even better when you stop at The Island Gate for a cheeky beer afterwards ... 🍻🍺👍 #birdwatchingphotography , #birdwatchireland

A truly hidden gem in the outskirts of Cork city. Bird watchers and photographers will love the well maintained bird hide provided by the council. It has not one but two hides provided with facility to place your heavy gear easily on the viewing slots provided.. Parking slots are very limited and can definitely be improved, however if coming early in the morning that shouldn't be an issue. Also important to keep in mind the walk is closed and is opened every day around 9 AM only, so plan accordingly!!.

Well-maintained trails lead to countless observation points, allowing you to marvel at the birds in their natural habitat. Expert guides and informative displays offer valuable insights into avian species and the surrounding plant life. This pristine sanctuary is a must-visit for its tranquility, educational value, and the sheer joy of connecting with nature. Experience the symphony of birdcalls and leave with a deep appreciation for our feathered friends.
