Great place for the family. We went with my family, my sister, her kids and the grandparents and we all had a lovely time. There is ample parking, all is well laid out with tonnes to entertain the kids. Little games and things to discover along the trail and decent amount of animals for them to look at. The staff were all lovely and the café is actually decently kitted out with good food and not as expensive as you'd expect for somewhere that has a captive audience, which was a nice surprise. Their museum areas were lovely but could do with an overhaul when it comes to context and information. Looks like they had signs ages ago but I'd love to be able to explain/name what are all of the bits of farming equipment, how they worked and what they were used for. Overall there is lots to do and you could easily spend half a day or more without the kids getting bored, well the younger kids at least (3-10 ish I'd say). 2 small criticisms, they need another set of Toilets near the café. It's a bit of a walk to the only toilet and then you have a small child, trekking back could lead to accidents. Plus would make the Grandparents happier. Lastly the bin situation was odd. Lots of bins but no organic that I could find and while there were green bins everywhere, they were almost all labeled general waste. There should have been a black & green bin at every bin spot and an organic/food bin at the café (I looked). We'll definitely be back, loved it. Well...
Read moreHave been a regular visitor to Greenane for a few years now.
My two daughters aged 9 and 5 absolutely love this place - I like it because they walk several kilometres in fresh country air, and are usually tired afterwards.
The nature walk and maze are also a treasure hunt - children who gather the answers to eight clues can exchange their answers for a small bag of jellies at the end of the trail.
The two mazes can easily occupy children for an hour, and the walk around the nature trail and farm can take another hour - longer if you bring a picnic with you or stop in the tea rooms.
At this time of year, there are new piglets and lambs, and children love to visit again later in the year to see how the new animals have grown. Ducks, geese, turkeys, a variety of hens, and an amazing peacock with enormous feathers, as well as goats, sheep and few other animals.
The nature trail has loads of signs explaining about the trees, wild animals and birds which can be found in the area. Younger children can be kept entertained looking for loads of fairy doors along the nature walk, and there is a small playground which will keep toddlers happy for a while.
This is clean, simple outdoors fun, and is well...
Read moreAs this is in a rural area, signposting could be better, so need to watch closely when you come into Greenane! Visited with my 8 year old niece & we enjoyed it so much. Had a late lunch from the café which was very tasty. We did the Solstice maze first to get started & completed it very quickly. We then moved on to the main maze - this was just planted this year as original maze (30+ years old) was diseased. The newly planted maze (beech plants & lots of beautiful wild flowers) presented a good challenge despite being so young - looking forward to returning next summer when it has matured a little. After we finished the mazes, there was still plenty to do, three farm museums, farm animals, fairy tree walk & playground, but it was the treasure hunt that we were interested in. This brought us all around the farm - & past many of the fairy houses too - to find clues to solve a puzzle. As well as being great fun, this was very educational for both adults & kids alike. Staff are very pleasant & helpful, - even came looking for my niece at end of day to give her her prize for the treasure hunt. Definitely worth a visit, you can bring your own picnic, lots of tables dotted about, really...
