A fitting memorial to Sir Ernest Shackleton the polar explorer who was born in Kilkea outside Athy Co Kildare. Athy Heritage Centre Museum houses the only permanent exhibition dedicated to Shackleton and his expeditions. The one and a half times life sized sculpture is by the artist Mark Richards.
