Baltinglass Abbey is the ruins of a medieval Cistercian monastery in County Wicklow, Ireland. It was founded in 1148 by Dermot MacMurrough, King of Leinster. The abbey was closed in the 16th century during the dissolution of the monasteries. Today, its preserved Gothic arches, columns, and remnants of the nave attract tourists and history enthusiasts.

Access is through the graveyard do not be put off by the locked gate. This is one of the earliest Cistercian houses in Ireland and was supposedly sponsored by Diarmaid Mac Murrough-Kavanagh. Very little carving has survived but the ruin is kept in very good condition. Barry Fergal Jennings

The Baltinglass Abbey ruins are a beautiful, well-preserved historical County Wicklow landmark. Our great-grandmother was born on Church Lane where the abbey is located. It was amazing to walk down the road and see the ruins and the adjacent Church of Ireland parish church looking similar to how it did when she lived there. There is a plaque with history of the abbey and its history, which was very interesting but I thought could use some expansion with more detailed...

Just over the bridge in baltinglass, take the first left by the shops and go straight. In front of you will be the abbey. It is accessible from the church side. Impressive abbey ruins in pretty good condition considering the age of it. Plenty of beautiful photo's to be taken. Also free parking which always helps. Not a real touristy spot so you can enjoy your time without feeling rushed...

A place full of history in a warm and welcoming location. The ruin is full of symbols and if you are looking for hidden signs and clues from the past, this is the place to spend time and look at the old walls and ruins. The park near the location is nice and you can have a marvelous picnic. The place itself has a strange feeling and is...
