National Bird of Prey Centre — Attraction in The Municipal District of Baltinglass

Excellent facility, really interesting too! I had organised a hawk walk for me and my partner but because there was an orange weather warning the walk was cancelled. (However I had cancelled it earlier that morning due to an impromptu car malfunction, not knowing the centre had cancelled the walk). Anyway, we decided it would be nicer to wait in Russborough House than in the garage waiting for the car to be fixed. So we got a taxi and went to the centre just to say it was fine to reschedule the walk not expecting anything. Tom was very nice and accommodating and took us round the facility to meet all the birds they had. He was very interesting and knowledgeable. We got to meet a couple of owls, Albert & Alan, and it was an amazing experience. To be so up close to one of these birds is a truly unique experience and I highly recommend it. This was a fantastic experience as part of our visit to Russborough house. We joined a small tour delivered by our guide called Ollie. Ollie was so knowledgeable about all of the birds, their habitat, the conservation of their environment and efforts being made to repopulate certain species all over the world. Both adults and children were rapt by his tour. The noise is so unusual in the centre with all of the birds making their opinions heard. Towards the end of the tour, Ollie brought us together in a little section and showed us a little baby owl that people had the opportunity to touch very gently and then the children also got a chance to hold an owl with a glove. What an extraordinary day out! We had the most wonderful afternoon at the National Bird of Prey Centre. Our guide, Donal was fantastic and clearly has so much knowledge & passion for these beautiful birds. He spent so much time with us, introducing us to every bird, sharing his wealth of knowledge with us and answering all our questions. The birds are so well cared for and their environment it beautiful.

Donal then brought us out to the extensive grounds to fly a Harris Halk. It was an amazing & exhilarating experience for us.

Could not recommend this place, suitable for all ages & a great day out.

Decent parking, cafe in Russborough House and of course you can visit the House, grounds, playground, nature trails etc afterwards.
