What a privilege this experience was. Myself, partner and 7 year old son were warmly welcomed by Caroline who showed us a baby hawk and then their two beautiful working dogs. John then brought us to see all the birds and meet with turbo the owl. Next we met Eggbert, a beautiful Harris hawk, who has a very distinct personality and a lovely playful nature that I was surprised to see - he really is a funny character! John effortlessly walked us around a beautiful field while talking about the hawk, letting each of us handle Eggbert and admire how incredible each landing and take off was. John reminded us to take photos and offered to take some for us too. He was an exceptional host, whose work with these birds is clearly a life long passion, rather then a business opportunity. The love and dedication shown and spoken of was something to be admired and the proof was evident in how the Harris hawk responded to instructions and calls. What I can only describe as an art to witness. Possibly even more impressive was John's ability to deliver facts and history in such a way to both adults and child that was so informative, while also being attentive to my son, whose special interests are everything animal, bird and fish. John is extremely down to earth and put everyone at ease, even when Eggberts sharp claws were nearby. John is clearly a master of the art and profession - it was again a privilege to see these birds up close, learn about them and to be able to bring my son to see, all while under the watchful eye of John. Go raibh maith agat as an fáilte agus an taithí John, Caroline, Turbo...
Read moreMy husband and I were visiting Ireland from New York City for a wedding and were recommended a visit to Hawkeye School of Falconry by the bride's family. As avid birder watchers, we were excited about this experience and can only say our expectations were exceeded and more. Spending time with John, Caroline, their dogs, and the majestic birds was beyond special. They are true masters in the art of falconry, sharing the history, technique, science, and personality of the animals and we felt like we were getting a real peek into their lives as falconers. It was an amazing way to spend a rainy morning, and well worth the drive from Cashel Palace. We hope to return one day but we will have the memories for a...
