One of the highlights of our weekend away. It wouldn't be for everyone, doesn't have the formal gardens or plant variety of the likes of Altamont. The cafe is limited in selection but is a beautiful space to relax in. Shankill has massive atmosphere and character, a little scruffy, charmingly eccentric. The ancient graveyard has the most amazing headstones if you take time to search the carvings. We'll go back next time we're in the area and hope to tour the house in future. One year later and we returned, this time we booked the house tour. Highly recommend it, the interior is fascinating, full of paintings by the owner Elizabeth Cole. We were lucky to have her as tour guide, lovely eccentricity and up for a bit of fun, the whole place is wonderful. Lovely to see such life in a heritage site, long may it continue. Thank you Elizabeth, from your Co Tyrone visitors, we enjoyed meeting you.

Amazing location, tastefully refurbished where necessary. We got a friendly welcome and were treated like long lost cousins. Elizabeth is an amazing woman with a wealth knowledge and fabulous personality. The treats at the cafe were a perfect taste to follow the beautiful walk around the property after a truly historic and eccentric tour of a big small irish house. If you are in the area, you must not skip this stop.

Мы заехали сюда после Altamont gardens и были, мягко сказать, разочарованы. После ухоженности и аккуратности, мы столкнулись с небрежностью и неряшливостью замка и его окрестностей... Начнём с того, что мы заплатили 28 евро за пару с ребёнком и это без входа в сам замок. За что? Не очень понятно. Единственно, что было красиво - это яблоневая аллея. Но бутылку яблочного сока, которую мы купили за 5 евро, мы вылили, потому что сок был каким-то прокисшим и не вкусным. Пруд за замком был неухоженным и грязным. Тропинка к кладбищу и развалинам древней церквушки была грязная и заросшая, поэтому всю нашу обувь пришлось потом стирать. В общем, думаю, что прежде, чем устраивать экскурсии, надо там всё обновить для начала, а мы жалеем, что потеряли время и деньги.

Stayed only 1 night but we met lovely owners, had breakfast, enjoyed the amazing living room with wine and champagne! Absolutely loved everything we saw. Highly recommended!

Shankill Castle jest bardzo ciekawym miejscem na mapie hrabstwa Kilkenny. To dom pełen twórczego chaosu i bardzo przyjaznej atmosfery Pani właścicielki - Elizabeth:) zamek ma interesująca historie, bardzo ładne tereny zielone, pyszne ciasta i kawę. Wycieczka po domu byla bardzo sympatyczna i czuliśmy się tam jak w rodzinie. Myślę że napewno wrócimy tam latem. Malarstwo i sztuka w tym domu są napewno świetną gratką dla studentów sztuki i malarstwa. Dziękujęmy że mogliśmy zwiedzić ten ciepły i bardzo twórczy dom:)

Shankill Castle and Gardens is set in parkland near Paulstown on the Carlow/Kilkenny border. Visitors are invited to walk in the grounds and gardens, and there are guided tours of the house. Shankill Castle started as a Butler tower-house near the ruins of an old church.
