Ireland’s 1st UNESCO Global Geopark
The Copper Coast UNESCO Global Geopark and Visitor Centre is located between Tramore and Dungarvan in County Waterford. The area was declared a European Geopark in 2001 and in 2015 it became Ireland’s first UNESCO Global Geopark. The geology of this area is a spectacular record of the earth’s past and along this coastline, you can see scalloped beaches and rocks produced from undersea volcanos, arid deserts, and ice ages. In the middle of the trail is a 19th-century copper mine heritage center that explains the influence that geology has had on humans. Read moreFantastic experience and so pleasantly surprised at all the information UNESCO have placed at each landmark. The weather was a bit grim but that didn't stop us so doing just about all the beaches.
A bit sad that campers couldn't clean after themselves at Sandy Cove. Their festival tents, litter and fire were all left laying all over the place. A sad state of affairs when you can't leave no trace and have no respect for the wonderful beauty that surrounds you. We picked up the litter as best we could and pushed the burnt tents out of the tide zone so it didn't get caught in the sea.

Read moreThe kids loved the day out great to discover all about the geological history of the copper coast .the staff were so nice and helpful really relaxing .we thought it was a church which obviously it used to be .Its an amazing relaxing cafe now with interactive sand and history for the kids to discover definitely a must see it was free entry when we went but I've included a price list when they have it up and running .even to donate to there project it's great for everyone...
