I treated myself to annual membership and have been a regular visitor over the last year. It is truly a magical place to visit in all seasons. Particularly beautiful in spring when everything is coming into bloom. It's so much more than a simple 'garden' it's a forest, almost jungle-like in places. I do a lot of walking in here, usually spending about an hour or so looping around the various trails. And thankfully in the last few months, the cafe has been vastly improved! In the past I wasn't a big fan and used to avoid it pretty much. But since they've done the overhaul, we've eaten here 4 or 5 times and have had the most delicious meals. The scones are superb. The coffee is also very good. Big big change from what it was in the past, thanks to the new head chef JB Dubois (ex GrowHQ). Side note: the annual membership is amazing value at €100 for 12month access (2 x adults, 2 x kids), including a 10% discount in the shop and cafe.

The Gardens continue to be wonderful and if I could separately review this, I would as the gardens are wonderful. The cafe leaves a lot to be desired. Popped in at 10:20am on a Sunday (probably our first mistake). Stables Cafe looks amazing, and it has a large shop area. Ambled over to order breakfast and the place was very busy. Tried to order breakfast, was told it would be a 30 minute wait for the breakfast, and even then only if we somehow had a table, which we didn’t. Asked about eating outside, they weren’t sure. Annoyed already, we ordered takeaway coffee and a quiche+croissant to heat. Got a table number, for our non existent table, and waited. And waited. 20 minutes later, the heated croissant arrived, spoon taken. Confusion then for 5 minutes as a girl with two coffees tried to find us. Eventually the quiche showed up too. 20+ minutes for coffee is just unheard of. Clearly they have lots of staff - I reckon 30 plus. But they’re disorganised and or untrained. The shop area is 3 times the size of the cafe seating area, and that’s a mistake. No bins outside to dispose of coffee cups. I won’t be back in a hurry.

My rating is based on the cafe not the gardens , which are stunning.at any time of year. The cafe was a huge disappointment, as a celiac the options were very abysmal. The only option for hot food was soup. I had the soup and it was average, what u would expect in a small cafe. I asked for gluten free bread toasted. Which they kindly did. The bread so only toasted on one side. There's was a selections of salads if u chose. And a sandwich could be made on gluten free store bought bread. It seems extremely lazy that no other options were available. I was told the beef pie was gluten free but then they changed their minds and quickly added the allergy to the sign. This left me worried, as they again appeared lazy re their ingredients. It is quite pricey which I don't mind paying if the quality and selection matches the price. My suggestion would be to eat elsewhere if u have any type of allergy and if u are a coeliac to not eat here.

We drove to the gardens from Cork because it was supposed to be one of the best gardens in all of Ireland. We liked the view from the temple and that the forest offered some shade, but that's it. Overall, we wouldn't come here again because we found other Irish gardens much better than this one. The signs were in such bad condition/in parts non-existent that we got lost several times. The waterfall was dried out, the greenhouse was under construction, the whole property generally appeared slightly unloved and neglected, very few flowers were in bloom in the walled garden, the pond was only green and not well maintained. It was nice to have a walk here for a day but we both expected more from the entrance fee. I wouldn't recommend for anyone to drive 90 mins one way to go see the garden but if you're in the area, why not visit?

Amazing place, been there twice this summer and planning to go back! The 70 acres park is packed with rare and beautiful plants in high numbers, picturesque views and lots of different feels spaces. Just to mention few of my favourites: magnolia forest, 500m hydrangea walk, multicolored waterlillies in the pond, well stocked in rare plants and varieties little shop in front, nepeta walk and magnolia grandiflora copse and many many more. There is even a special trail for kids with lots of interesting things to find and do, that needs to be documented on the special question sheet - my little boy gets all excited about it and we spotted lots of other kids on the quest to. The only downside is a cafe shop that looks like from 80'ies; to they do nice coffee and sandwiches though. I think I would get a yearly pass there.

I live locally and a group of us have breakfast various mornings in different locations. Having had very poor experience with the cafe previously we we were looking forward to the new cafe. But to be honest it’s worse in my experience. I had coffee served in cardboard mug for 4.10€ which I thought was extortion. I also had pancakes and bacon bits for 1150€. I expected it to be freshly made. But it was pre-made and reheated. Soggy and really poor. Girls behind the counter were very pleasant. But appeared to be unsure of their role and so embarrassed trying to justify the prices. Really poor and so disappointing. Not a hope would repeat business be expected. Pity. Because it’s a super setting and has the potential to thrive. 😔
