We went as a group of 5, 3adults 2 small kids. I booked online and added 2 digger tickets, 2 chocolate lollies and 3 mini golf tickets. Total was very near €100. Very expensive imo for what it was. The diggers were disappointing. The girl who was on just before my kids, was on it for at least 10mins. I put both mine in one digger, handed over 2 tickets and their turn was over in 4mins. 4! The chocolate lollies were 6.50 each. You get 2 little cups of melted choc, few sprinkles and marshmallows, 2 sticks and a tray mold to put it all in then let it set. The kids enjoyed doing this and they got to eat the leftover chocolate. However getting them out of the mold was impossible. We eventually took them to the counter for help and were told that we were likely given the wrong chocolate. Not a big deal, we got to pick 2 different lollies from the counter. They sell them for about €3 in the shop so tbh I'd say just buy them there. They make their own ice cream and it's really nice. I'm not really an ice cream fan but this was lovely. I got the Black Forrest one. Mini golf was a bust but that was because my kids just weren't interested so can't speak on that. They do have a little snack/drink cart beside the golf course which is handy. Loads and loads of things for kids to play on. Jungle gyms, slides etc... If I'm honest I'm not sure I'd call this place an open farm, it's more like a giant playground with a few animals. My kids were a bit young for this place. 3+4yrs. It was really busy the day we went and seems most kids were between 6-12. My 2 got pushed and shoved a lot in the madness, expected with lots of excited kids but mine were just a bit too little for all that. They loved walking through all the old timey part. The little cottage and old firetruck were great. As for the petting zoo aspect, all we saw was a little pony the kids got to brush and a sheep. We didn't eat hot food there so cant speak on that. My mother is in a wheelchair and for the most part there was no issue getting her around. Parking was no problem either. Overall it was a nice day. I don't think I'd spend the money on going again. Or maybe I'll wait til my kids are older and can better deal with the chaos of giddy kids in a...
Read moreWe visited this farm when the weather wasn't great and a lot of the time we were by ourselves. Right now there is an outbreak of avian flu so all the birds were kept indoors, which is a pity because my 3 year old girl loves birds. However we still got to see a Peacock, hens and budgie's. There is so much to see and do here. There are 6 museums showing loads of vintage articles for example a vintage wedding dress in farmer Eddie's cottage and a vintage reentry visa to the US in nans nook museum. These museums however are probably more geared toward the adults rather than the children. For my daughter the highlight had to be the diggers and possibly the barrel train train which she went on by herself. She said it was awesome. The barrel train was free but the digger was €3 for 3 minutes. She thoroughly enjoyed it so I say money well spent. The other highlights for her was holding a mouse called whiskers and milking a pretend cow. There are tons of hand washing facilities around the place which is super handy. Leahy open farm make their own chocolate which tastes as good as nestle and also their own ice cream. The ice-cream & chocolate factory has its very own chocolate fountain which you can get poured over your ice-cream and it hardens. Delicious! The gift shop is incredible and I pickled up a few bits which will make lovely birthday/Christmas presents. The hot food is expensive. A chicken burger with chips and coleslaw costs €13. But the coffee served there while not great is good value. All in all a great day out day out for the family and we will be going back to check out the stuff we...
Read moreA tired venue in need of a fair bit of work and not worth the gate price.
Yes there are animals there but it wouldn't take you long to see them as most of them are locked away in barns and pens in one area. There are "petting sessions" but good luck getting the right time as when we went it was not at the time stated on their website. Here you can feed a lamb (for about 10 seconds before you must get out of the way for the next person), try stroke a guinea pig or a rabbit, hold a very small snake and stroke a friendly goat.
There is the option to let the kids have a go on a mini digger which costs €2 per go but its limited to movement of the digger arm and you get about 5 minutes before you have to get off.
There are some obstacle course type apparatus for kids to climb on but again nothing special and not why i paid to go to a farm for.
They have a maze which is "one of the largest mazes in Ireland". Ireland must have a bunch of small mazes as i think it took my 5 yr old about 10 minutes to get to the middle and back again.
Overall i was disappointed in this venue. It strikes me as a venue that was once a working farm and has now just a load of old farm machinery lying around along with a small number of animals where they have decided to bung in a few "attractions" for kids so they can overcharge parents with the hope of a good farm demonstration. There was no education for the kids regarding how anything on the farm worked and looking at an old potato picker sitting there doesn't make the kids imagination fire up.
Some effort needs to be put into this venue to...
