Today I attended the Christmas experience with my family and I am honestly shocked and appalled at how we were treated by some of the Wells House staff.I woke up and decided to give them a call this morning to see if the event was still going ahead due to there being an orange weather warning issued in the area and the lady on the phone informed me that it was. I told her I was not comfortable being my 14 week old baby and small children out in this weather and if there was a possibility that we could change days as the kids were so excited to go and I didn’t want the day ruined. She informed me that it was still going ahead they would charge a fee (on top of the over €150 we had already paid) to change. Against my better judgment I left it as is as she promised that it wouldn’t affect the quality of our experience and that most of the experience would be indoors. We arrived to our appointment slot 8 minutes late after encountering floods and fallen trees on our way. We tried to open the door into the room to check in when we were stopped my a blonde woman who asked our names. We apologised for being late and she proceeded to lock the door leaving my small children and tiny baby out in the storm shivering and shaking. She then lead what I assumed were our group out to the train while we waited outside in the rain. She told us that management told her that she wasn’t to let us in the room. I understand that we were late, but to leave a tiny baby and children outside in the soaking rain was completely unacceptable especially when there was room for us to stand in the room she locked. We received no apology when I asked her why she did this. First they told us they could not accommodate us at all after some of us had travelled all the way from Dublin . The children were so upset. They told us we would have to wait 5 hours for the next train. It was only when we asked for a refund that they told us they would put us in with the next group but we would not be going on the train. We agreed to this. They then gave the children their name tags and to add insult to injury my sons name was spelled wrong. Mrs Clause and elves were brilliant at lifting the children’s moods. We were then brought to an elf village and they were great with the kids although we had to go from cabin to cabin out in the storm. We then went into Santa who was the most impressive part. He gave the kids 2 vouchers for hot chocolates which they never got and no one told us where to go to get them. Overall a very poor experience due to our treatment by a certain member of staff. We have attended Wells House many times for lunch etc but we will not be returning and I have recommended friends and family not to attend the...
Read moreThe Gruffalo says that the Gruffalo should "Never take a walk in Well's House Wood" "Why not? Why not?" The Gruffalo replied in a snot. "Because if you do, The sly fox will over charge you."
"I met her once said the Grufallo, I met her a day ago"
"What did she do, tell us Dad. Tell us why she made you so mad."
"I quiet well remember" the Grufallo said As he ran back over the story in his head.
We drove past the barrier and the log pile house, There wasn't anyone or a sign to be seen, Not even a mouse.
We parked in the lot, There was many a spot. No other visitors or so it would seem, As the loss of money turned the Gruffalo Green.
We went to the cafe to get something to eat, But there there was no one to meet, The cafe was closed As our fingers and toes froze,
The house doors were shut, So off we went on foot.
To warm up we embarked on a short 1.2km walk, When we finished we could hardly talk.
Into the car we leapt and bound, Drove to the barrier which was locked we found.
No sign or way to pay, We googled the phone number and were told we must reverse back down the fairy light lit driveway.
€23 we were charged for less than a 50 min stay, We had to pay to make our get away.
It be cheaper per minute to rent in D4, Or so we had heard before.
... ...Disappointing experience, went there to get lunch and explore the grounds. The cafe was closed, it was 1 pm. Upon entry there is a barrier which opens, no where visible to pay.
We did a 1.2km walk and left. Drove up to the barrier less than a hour later. It wouldn't open, no signage or way to pay.
Needed to search Internet for phone details, and told we had to drive back to the hut which was unmanned upon arrival. There was a car at the hut which has no signage apart from advertising Xmas experience and a person talking to them.
After reveraing the length of the drive we were charged €23. Shocking about for a poor experience. Glad we didn't have opportunity to pay for lunch too.
Could do with hut being manned and sign to stop and pay on entry, or some communication at exit barrier.
Won't be back.
There was a gardener who was warm and friendly, didn't speak to him or anything but gave us a...
Read moreReally disappointing experience. We had planned to visit here on Tuesday with one service user and two carers, having tried to buy tickets on the website prior to arrival due to our service user liking to know where they are going and liking to have a plan for the day we realised they didn't have the option to buy for special needs/carers also there was no information around carers having to have any form of badge or rules for this. So as we arrived and stopped at the hut to buy our tickets the woman that came out to us and very rudly told us we couldn't come in as we had no carers badge. Having asked if we really need them she replied "well yeah" in a very rude tone. We then said we will have to come back another time which she replied yeah and make sure next time to bring your badge. Our service user was so disappointed as they had been looking forward to their visit for the prior few days leading up to this. They didn't understand why we drove in and had to turn around, this really upset them for the rest of the day causing unnecessary stress to them. I really think in this day and age that the staff member we encountered that day would have some kind of compassion and understanding around people with special needs. We will not be returning here again with any of our service users and would not recommend to anyone. Also to add, having checked a similar place online based in Clonroche we were able to purchase tickets for someone with special needs and a carer, they also have information on they website about available disability parking. We went there today and not one of us were asked for a badge, and all our service users had a great time. Wells House this is the first time we have experienced this kind of discrimination, in person also online where there is no option to buy a ticket for someone with special needs. Yous should try harder to be inclusive of...
