I called to the lavender farm on Friday morning. I live near it and was meeting two friends for brunch. I have not been there since before the pandemic so was looking forward to it as the food was very good.. There was always a charge for parking as the farm has great facilities for families but being of a certain age with adult children I was simply availing of the cafe and in the pre pandemic the charge for parking was not levied if only availing of the cafe. Imagine my shock when I was informed in the cafe that, even though we three intended to only have brunch and buy some lavender oil, we each had to pay the 3 euro charge for our cars. This appears outrageous to me it means my coffee if that's all I had would cost 3 euros extra. I advised the young lady that I thought that was outrageous and said I would pay the charge but would not be staying and would advise my friends to meet me elsewhere. In fairness she gave me the token without charge. There was no one in the cafe and only about 6 cars in the car park so the loss of our custom probably cost the business around 40 to 50 euros. Seems a crazy way to run a business but here u go. This is a great facility for families but if you just want to meet friend for lunch or brunch it would be cheaper to go somewhere they want your custom enough not to charge...
Read moreLovely place to visit. It's a lavender farm with fields of lavender nearby. I was expecting a sea of purple but it's mostly a grey looking plant - not sure what time of the year the lavender blooms - I'd expect it would be very impressive then. There's a playground for the kids, next to a pen with some animals on display (a goat, a pig, a pony and some ducks). There's a forest walk - about a mile. They're making it into a fairy walk - there's a nice throne and wooden bridge at the entrance - and the occasional fairy door hidden along the path (it's Coillte protected so I expect they can't do too much to the forest - pity they couldn't clear at the top or have some tower there because I'd expect there would be a lovely view). There's a cafe/shop/restaurant. Some prices may be slightly steep but seeing as admission is free and what's on offer and that this is what they make their money on it's only fair to go on a spending spree. Understandably no picnics are allowed. There are gifts with a lavender theme, with bought in products and home grown products on offer. There's a courtyard if you want to sit outside or there's the restaurant inside. There were a good few people just using it as a nice place to...
