We stayed in Loughcrew Hostel on Sat 10th Nov 12 players from our ladies football team (aged 15-16). and 3 adults. Loughcrew is an area of great historical importance near Oldcastle, County Meath. It is home to a group of megalithic tombs dating back to the 4th millennium BC, which sit on top of hills 20 minutes from the hostel. On the recommendation of the hostel owners, we spent a glorious afternoon in the Loughcrew adventure centre despite the cold fresh weather. Our instructor Karl was excellent, patient and helpful with the girls. The activities were followed by lunch in the cafe of freshly prepared soup and sandwiches. We were hosted in the warmth and comfort of the conservatory and the two girls who served us could not have been more welcoming and friendly. We then spent the evening in the hostel The hostel was clean and roomy with fresh. clean bed linen and good Kitchen and bathroom facilities. We ordered Pizza and chips from Enzo's in Oldcastle which the girls thoroughly enjoyed. Sara and Niall were very helpful and provided directions to the Cairn as well as torches for our midnight walk. Afterwards the girls enjoyed a sing-a-long which due to the relative seclusion of the area, neighbours or fellow travellers were not disturbed. This is a very beautiful part of the country with the best of natural scenery and historical sites as well as the nearby amenities offered by the loughcrew estate. Every girl on the team loved this trip, time spent outdoors, time spent offline, time to chat and laugh. The best of Ireland, friendly and warm. I could not recommend more...

We stayed for 4 nights with 5 kids, 15, 14, 4, 2.5 and 1.5. They kids had a ball...plenty of space to run about. Games room for older kids was a hit with our teens. The playpark was great for the little ones! The camping kitchen was fabulous. Plenty of space, picnic benches big enough for all 7 of us to eat dinner. Plenty of plug sockets and freezer too. 2 Gas hobs, 2 microwaves and a kettle. 2 sinks for washing dishes. A small selection of pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, utensils, cups and glasses also provided. Owners were delightful to deal with and very knowledgeable about area. The camping area is large, although half of it is on a slope. This wasn't such a big deal for us (good work out for the legs) Toilets and showers in camp site area and behind kitchen (although these are also used by visitors to coffee shop and those staying in the glamping, campervan/caravan areas.) All areas were spotless. The owners were actually brushing and mopping toilet block floors at 11.30pm. Plenty of hand sanitizer stations dotted about too. Very family friendly, and right on 11 the noise stops. It was like someone flicked a switch. We didn't eat in coffee shop but did get ice creams for the kids and wasn't overly expensive. Would definitely recommend and the proximity to the cairn is great for making it up there for the sunset. Location wise it is very rural but close enough that major attractions are max of 40mins drive away. All in all we had a great 4 nights and will...

Lovely place. We were actually staying over there for one night at the hostel. Staff extremely helpful we arrived bit earlier so we went for a trek up to the Cairns and on the way back we received text that our room is ready. We've been given all the information, leaflets about the area. They make very nice hot chocolate with soy milk. We will definitely return and stay over there again.

Beautiful location, huge areas for tents, vans, and Jurts, all separated around the reception. Playground, playroom. EHU and water at the graveled van pitches. Showers and use of well equipped kitchen is all included for 30€/n. Very calm through the week end of September. Lovely hosts, relaxed and friendly. Located next to Loughcrew cairns a neolithic cemetery. Nice walk up there.

Can I have a go of your yurt? There is a great cafe & center just beside the car park for the loughcrew Cairns. A stone courtyard is set amongst one storey cottages. The cakes and lunch are great. There is a new playground. The yurt looked like an incredible place to spend the night. This is a real Gem off the beaten track. #ramblingstampcollectors
