I was at the Irish Military Museum on the weekend of Military reenactors and military vehicle enthusiasts. There were brilliant displays of military hardware, equipment and uniforms.

All the different people displaying their equipment, and uniforms were more than happy to talk about their stuff and show their items off. It was all very friendly and informative.

There were also a number of stalls, selling all sorts of military items, from uniforms, to gas masks, to equipment and even replica weapons from a wide range of periods.

The museum itself was very interesting with loads of displays from many periods of military history. But with a special focus on World War 2.

A gentleman called William was very helpful, and informative at the museum. Nothing seemed too much to ask of him while we were there.

There were military vehicle that you could book to ride on/in, which looked good fun. But we did not do this, on our visit, as we were pressed for time with so much to see.

I spent so much time talking to the men and women with the displays and looking at all the equipment.

We learned about many military things while we were there. There were many interesting displays. One tent had uniforms on display, and the guy told us all about the Irish involvement in the Spanish Civil War. I had little knowledge of this war until hearing about it at this display.

All in all, it was a very interesting visit to the Military Museum. I would recommend a visit, especially if there is a military weekend on at...

The Irish Military Museum just outside Collon, Co. Louth is a credit to the owner. There is a huge abundance of Militaria inside & out. Each section has extremely detailed information & facts about the time period being displayed. Such care has been taken to ensure you enjoy your experience with audio assistance throughout. Accurate representation of life in the army in times gone by is just phenomenal. Young & old alike with any interest in Military history will be absolutely thrilled with what's in store here. Allow yourself a few hours for the visit as the amount of history detailed & displayed needs to be given the appropriate time to be appreciated fully. There are toilets on site & wheelchair facilities available. I didn't see a restaurant but there is plenty of outdoor space with benches out in the open & under a huge canopy to use for the picnic you should bring. In my opinion the entrance price is fantastic for families & just adults alike . There is more than enough to justify the price. If you have kids who are very young & hard to keep interested there are bouncy castles, ducks, ponies, playpark onsite too to keep them busy. Plenty of parking available & lots of disabled parking spots allocated. Lots of events are run here too & the price is not altered to gain access so if you can attend when there is an event on like for example 'The Viking Experience' you get double your monies worth too!!! We have a 14yo son & we LOVE visiting this place. 10/10....

As an avid military historian for the last 20 years i was unsure as to what to expect from a military history museum I had never heard of. Within 2 minutes of arriving, I was absolutely blown away (no pun intended!) William greeted me with an MG42 German machine gun at the door and handed it to me!! I have never come across such a collection of arms, artifacts, reenactments portraying various conflicts, original uniforms or such well designed and laid out displays. William and his staff have an unbelievable knowledge of military history and know intimately the story of each item in the museum which is no mean feat, given the sheer number of items within the museum. In IWM Duxford in the UK, one can perhaps hold a chained to the wall machine gun or pistol. However in the IMWM, you are actively encouraged to both hold and examine a large number of weapons, artifacts and immerse yourself in the displays on hand.

It was a true pleasure to meet someone with such a knowledge and passion for a subject I have studied for most of my adult life and a trip to this museum should be a must for school children throughout Ireland to give them an insight into military events that shaped the modern world.

I look forward to returning soon and want to take this opportunity to thank both Bill and his staff for a truly...

I recently visited the Irish Military Museum in Meath, and it was an incredible experience that I highly recommend to anyone interested in history and military artifacts. From the moment I arrived, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, providing an excellent introduction to the exhibits. The collection is extensive, covering various periods of military history, from ancient times to the modern era. Each exhibit is meticulously curated, with detailed information that provides context and enhances the experience. One of the highlights of the museum is the impressive array of military vehicles and weaponry. Seeing these up close was truly awe-inspiring. The museum is well-laid out and easy to navigate, with clear signage and informative panels. In addition to the exhibits, the museum offers guided tours that are both informative and engaging. The guides are passionate about the subject matter and eager to share their knowledge, making the tour a memorable experience.

I'm really impressed with the Irish Military Museum. The Guides (William & Co. ) are very knowledgeable & engaging. Our students had a fantastic time. It was a very unique educational experience and helped reinforce their classroom learning about WWI. The guides are flexible in terms of being able to adapt the tour to the needs of students and teachers. This was our second trip to the Museum so far and we look forward to bringing more of our students in the near future. What is unique about this museum is that students are able to hold a lot of the weaponry and try on many of the uniforms and helmets. There's few places in the world where a museum will go the extra mile like this. This helps cement their learning with a fully immersive experience. I would highly recommend a visit to the Irish Military Museum. Mr. Collins, Post Primary Teacher at Oatlands College.

A great collection of weapons, vehicles and other artefacts from - primarily - the first and second world wars. Perhaps unusually for a museum, they actively encourage visitors to pick up and handle many of the exhibits. Want a selfie with an AK47? Or a Thompson submachine gun? Or a Bren gun? No problem! Our guide - Fergus - was very knowledgeable and interesting and at the end of the tour we got to take a spin through the mud in an armoured personnel carrier. A great day out for anyone with any interest in military history.
