We saw on local news that an archaeological dig was taking place in the grounds around Ballymoon so took a chance on a visit. Niall and Caoimhe very kindly took us on a tour of their trenches showing us their recent discoveries and putting forward their working theories of how the castle had been constructed; the original layout of the land surrounding the structure and the geopolitical clash of powers at play when the site was inhabited.
