A lovely castle with large grounds. The castle is nestled in a big field with a large surrounding stone wall. Once inside you can see the structures as they once were, it has many openings in its walls and the fact you can walk around the whole area is a bonus. Parking is on a busy main road and will take time to find a safe parking spot. Its well worth a visit but parking is tricky, cheers

Beautiful place to visit and let the kids roam around and explore. No one else around so we spent ages there. Some rooms and nooks to explore. Then had a walk around the outside of it. Very impressive structure in a stunning countryside location. Parking for 1 car directly across from entrance to field in disused gateway. Will go back again.

There is a little laneway marked with a green and white bollard just past the sign for the castle. Drive up the laneway alongside the corn and there is another entrance to the castle field you can park at. The castle ruins are fun to explore and there is a little information plaque inside.

We saw on local news that an archaeological dig was taking place in the grounds around Ballymoon so took a chance on a visit. Niall and Caoimhe very kindly took us on a tour of their trenches showing us their recent discoveries and putting forward their working theories of how the castle had been constructed; the original layout of the land surrounding the structure and the geopolitical clash of powers at play when the site was inhabited. We are very thankful to their team for allowing us access. We look forward to seeing more from the Carlow Historical and...

No parking directly outside, but park in laneway first left turn heading away from Bagenalstown and walk back. Well worth it, wonderfully well preserved and complex castle remains from 14th century. Not much history available on it, but such a peaceful spot and so intact you can really get a great idea what life would have been like within its...
