*WARNING * AVOID THIS PLACE * I went here with my two children and their grandmother and we went into the café to ask about the place and if there was anything for the kids. The staff said that the visitor centre is closed but it should be open this time of year and didn't know why Mary didn't show up for work today. I asked was it still OK to go around and she said yes and offered to charge €13.00 for a family to go around the maze garden (even though visitor centre closed) Whilst my children and their grandmother were ordering cupcakes and coffee another staff member produced a price list for the maze garden €4.00adult €1.00 child which resembled nothing to the €13.00 the first staff member tried to charge us (I think she thought we came down in the last shower and didn't realise we were locals) The coffee was weak and cold and the cupcakes we got for the children were so hard they broke into bits and young James who loves his grub wundnt look at it, there was no fooling him a 2 year old. We brought back in the cold coffees and the two broken stale cupcakes and she got the fright of her life and she thought she was to good things. Read moreCame last year and coming again this year, such a lovely place to visit and awe inspiring in my opinion! Staff are extremely friendly and polite and to say otherwise would be wrong, can't wait to visit and bring our friend who's never been to Ireland before, she's in for a few pleasant suprises! On our last visit my 32 year old daughter was like a little kid 'oohh I've never had the keys to an Abbey before, take a snap dad so I can show my friends at work'! edited = we went again last week and I'd like to thank the lovely Eileen from the cafe who went out of her way to make sure my disabled wife Ann, and her disabled friend Julie were well looked after in their comfort and their refreshment needs! Also the young lady in the gift shop was extremely polite and helpful, good staff these days are hard to find, and the owner has at least two of them in his employ! It was a lovely morning out despite the weather and our friend Julie took loads of pics to show her family! Barry Phillips. Brighton....

Car parking is free and we parked a large camper with no problem. You need to obtain a key from the visitor's centre before crossing the road and walking down the long path to the abbey. There aren't any steps that I remember so it should be largely accessible for wheelchair users.
We visited on a weekday afternoon so it was very quiet with 4 of us there, plus my dog. It is a dog-friendly activity, but as there are cattle in the fields that surround, dogs do need to stay...
