My son and me wanted to go visit the titanic exhibit in the Heritage centre in Abbeyleix before we go to the titanic exhibitiion in Belfast knowing that there was one in Abbeyleix. I called on the phone to see was the building open today and how much it cost so it was open and because it is heritage week it is free of charge which was very good to know and made the trip worth while even though it would have only cost €5 each, it still takes the sting out of the drive over and having to pay. So anyway we arrived, we stayed there for about 3 hours we made sure to look at everything there, there's alot to take in, there's more information about the 1798 rebellion and 1916 rebellion too it is a really great place to go into the past to see some of Irish history especially on a local level run by local people anyway we stayed there until closing time which was 5pm. Then went to the playground onsite and had a small picnic and enjoyed the time on this lovely Autumn day in Abbeyleix. We heard there was an unvailing of a commemorative display later that night approx 7.30pm about a local family (The McHugh's) during the 1916 rising that helped make bombs for the IRA so we stuck around for that and there was a fine turn out, we saw a few people we knew and did a bit of catching up, later there was some refreshments sandwiches, tea, coffee and buns etc. And a traditional band playing some music too. There was alot going on today at this building located just off the main street of Abbeyleix on the Ballyroan road. We were familiar with the building and town so it was like just another day for us. And will return at some point and hopefully catch another event taking place. It's even just a nice place to hang out for an hour at the park as there is lots to do in the small town of Abbeyleix.

Very friendly gentleman on arrival. Very clean building, toilets clean too. The artifacts are very interesting. Alot smaller than we thought. Wasn't sure what some artifacts were but most things had signage. Well laid out, spacious. Definitely learned something. You'd want a strong interest in history to enjoy and appreciate it.

I went as part of a university society for the werewolf event and I couldn't be happier with my experience. The stories were so well put together, and the atmosphere was perfect for Halloween. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for events here in the future! The entire staff were exceptional, they were all so attentive and inviting. I need to give a special mention to the curator Oisin, who was an incredible speaker and so friendly to our group. I would highly recommend this establishment to any...
