Your website is very alluring and I decided to visit as I was hoping to arrange a lunch and garden visit for a large group at a later date. What a disappointment. As a gardener I was shocked to see that you charge €10 a head for the garden, my own garden is so much better and it’s free. The whole approach to the property is neglected, I love a natural environment but this was awful. The car park full of weeds. The coffee shop was awful. I paid for my food but was asked to pay again. I was served tea in a plastic cup. They had no glasses for the soft drinks. We had to sit on a stone wall as only one umbrella in the seating area on the hottest day of the year. Then to top it all the hens drank my tea & eat my cake. It was funny but after paying €12, left with an empty stomach. I have read your reviews from three years ago stating it’s a work in progress, seems like it has stalled. I would not recommend it and it’s a pity. It is a beautiful place but they need to plan and organise it better. €10 for the garden is crazy. No concessions for OAP or students. They are not on a bus route so should make it more attractive. More TLC is needed to make...
Read moreMy son and I were Hamwood’s very first visitors when the café opened, and we’ve been coming back every summer since. We absolutely love it—the courtyard, the café, and the delicious cakes. I especially appreciate a well-made barista coffee, and Lisa and her partner are always happy to have a friendly chat.
If you’re lucky enough to visit on a sunny day—especially during one of Ireland’s rare heatwaves—the shady courtyard feels like a peaceful retreat. The little trail walk through the grounds is a must-do, with its beautiful mature trees and plants. It never gets old for me! There’s something truly charming about its non-manicured, wild garden feel. It even seems to have its own microclimate.
I’ve brought family and friends here over the years—it’s such a serene spot for a coffee date and a real hidden gem. I wish the owners every success, though a small part of me hopes it stays a peaceful...
Read moreSuch a special place to retreat to! The house is absolutely breathtaking and has clearly been lovingly preserved. You get the sense that every corner of the estate comes with a story. The parlor is cozy and inviting, yet regal. The people running the property are warm, welcoming, and extremely accommodating. They made my stay an absolute pleasure. There's a cute little cafe onsite with tea, coffee, tasty cakes, and other treats. In addition, the estate was the perfect place to write, paint, or go for a stroll-- ripe with inspiration and tranquility. I only wish I could've stayed longer! Truly the perfect little getaway from Dublin. (And an easy train ride away!) Thank you again for your hospitality and kindness. I hope to be...
