Sometimes you can’t help it but to check in late, especially when your plans were to have a different transportation than one had. Post arriving at the place that sells its dream of an authentic Irish experience, a guest allowed me in the premises as there were no reception staff around 22:30 I did advise Grave I was going to be late, and that I wanted to spend two nights. I settled myself and went downstairs for a glass of water where I now met a receptionist Rebecca and as cheerful as I am and having settled myself already I said - sorry I checked in late. Rebecca replied in a such confrontational manner “yes very late and you are not allowed to stay here!” My heart started pounding - I am exhausted after 4 taxis, 3 busses and a long walk with my backpack to come experience James’s and Grace’s authentic Irish experience and this is what I get! How do you allow Rebecca to treat people like this? I knew it and the guest confirmed it - Rebecca was okay with the guest that looks like her letting me in - but after seeing me not looking like herself, some people unconsciously can not help themselves but to antagonise people that don’t look like themselves. I said to Rebecca I didn’t plan to arrive late - it feels like you are blaming me for being late, bare in mind I am a guest here. Yes Rebecca said “maybe you did!” I said is this how you host people? I expected a welcome approach, she said to me we run a service within specified times, the guest shouldn’t have let you in, I said would you have preferred that I - a woman travelling by herself be stranded in your premises. She said yes and you can’t stay here I will call the guards! I said oh my goodness I have never been met with such experience in any of my global travels. It is because of people like Rebecca that we have historical, current and in the near future series of draconian authoritarians. What a monstrous soul she is! Of course, this ruined my Irish experience, because people never forget how you make them feel.
Last night I thought I woke and not bother with breakfast. Nonetheless I woke up and thinking Rebecca doesn’t own the place, I may just be able to speak to someone else and this experience will be okay nonetheless. I had breakfast. I approached the lady that cooked the breakfast if I could speak to someone, Rebecca responded “me!” I said is there anyone else. Rebecca responded “me!”
I said did you find out I did call to advice I will be late and would spend an extra night. Rebecca said responded yes and we have cancelled your reservation for tonight! Just wow.. as Prince Harry came to his realisation and found a better term for it “unconscious biases” will forever live in some certain groups. This is our beautiful earth. Some people will meet will be amazing souls, while others will be very ugly, and use every word in the dictionary to defend their mannerism.
Other than that, it could have been...

If you are a picture taking enthusiast then this place is for you. There are many amazing points for you to angle that camera and take shots from: Poulanass Waterfall, Nature Reserve points, Ancient Burial grounds, Wildlife (we saw a Fox and some Deer). The Glendalough Upper Lake was absolutely stunning and my favourite spot.
This is a great place to take the family or even your loved one to. A day trip to explore history, take long walks and get some exercise all at the same time with some of those much loved 'selfie' moments. Why not bring your dog along too if you have one - plenty for them to do!
There are tuck-shops for you to buy food from and I would recommend the chips as they were absolutely brilliant (especially on a cold day!). If you are a family with kids, you could bring your own picnic, and set-up in the various parts of greenery. Bring a Frisbee too for the kids/adults.
*You can use Gas fire BBQ's if you are planning to do this here but not Coal fired BBQ's I imagine due to safety reasons.
This is a good site for hikers as this is within Wicklow Mountains and we saw a lot of hikers preparing for camp.
Fishing enthusiasts will be pleased to know you can fish here amongst some of the lakes and rivers: most common fish found is the Brown Trout.
It will get cold so do wrap up warm if the weather is anything below 10 degrees.
Enjoy the panoramic views and beauty encompassing...
