Located on the stunning Mizen Peninsula is where visitors will find the Mizen Head Signal Station which has been open to the public since it was completed in 1910. The Mizen Vision Visitor Centre in the Keeper's House and the Engine Room, the famous Suspension Bridge, the 99 Steps and the views up the South and West Coasts combined with the exhilaration and excitement of the wild Atlantic waves and ancient tortured rocks guarantee a unique and authentic experience. There are spectacular views on the Bridge and at the end of the peninsula and the houses have been equipped with an audio-visual room, a map and archive room; the Keeper's kitchen and bedroom have been retained and there is a bird and sea watch room. Imagination takes over in the Mizen environment cave, the Fastnet Room, the Underwater Room and the Storm Room....
Read moreWe've been here several times over the years but just visited the centre and not gone across to the station so we did this time. The visitor centre is very good as is the adjoining cafe. We went early to avoid the crowds as the narrow road has been busy in the past. There is a charge to visit - €7.50, but it's worth it. Even in this windy weather we had today, it was atmospheric to see the waves crashing and feel the wind through each cell of my body. There are many pathways, some I didn't do as they were very steep, but I had seen enough. Lovely cafe and gift shop too. A must see and would recommend. Not buggy or wheelchair friendly however. You would need some level of mobility to walk up and down to the signal tower. There are 99...
