The Hula (Valley) Nature Reserve, which is located between the Golan Heights, the Naftali Mountains, and the Bikaa Valley, is called "A Migratory Bird's Paradise", and rightfully so. The Hula Nature Reserve and it's lake are one of the most unique bird-watching sites in the world. and who would have dreamed that in this dry region of the Middle East there would actually be such a great nature reserve?
Well, according to the Hula nature reserve office, twice a year, there are no fewer than 500 million birds, including water birds, birds of prey and songbirds who are making their home at the Hula Lake.
Altogether, more than 390 different species pass through this remote site yearly, but not only birds can be seen there, also wild cats, buffalo beasts and a variety of unique animals.
It happens here in the spring and especially in the fall, when hundreds of thousands of birds migrate here, making their way from Asia and Europe on their way to Africa, and the relatively pleasant weather of the Israeli winter makes them fall in love with this country.
It is nothing less than amazing to see them arriving by the masses... Pelicans, Herons, Storks, Cranes, birds of prey and other winged species. In the fall months, close to 100,000 cranes arrive into the Hula Valley, and about a third of them remain here during the winter.
If you are visiting Israel and you keep a special place in your heart for nature, then, by all means, I recommend this beautiful site for you.
I was actually there twice already and the best time of the day to visit the Hula Nature Reserve is before sunset. this is when the cranes and many other birds get back by the thousands to the Hula lake to sleep over through the night, while during day time they will roam the grasslands and the fields around the valley.
There are special guided tours at the premises that take you around and give you full coverage about all types of birds, different species, etc.... You can also rent out bikes and these cart mobile vehicles for getting around. it's a spectacular place and I didn't even mention the gorgeous scenery surrounding you.
It's a real...

Read moreHave been here several times as a tourist - a must see preserved and cherished treasure of Israel’s nature - easy to find and travel to near main highway- large parking area with day camp area for picnics - nice gift shop and snack area well maintained washroom facilities - wheelchair accessible everywhere. The walk into the park leads on paved paths in a couple directions to choose from connect with wooden walkways over the marshland - I have seen water buffalo, otter, nutria, pelicans storks cranes and many other birds by the hundreds. A birdwatchers dream day for sure. The wooden pathways wind through the marshes and reeds and really get you close to nature while hiding you just enough not to frighten the animals - the path extends out on the lake as a covered viewing area you can watch the larger birds from. There are times where the larger birds are fed grain so the bird congregate by the thousands - if your touring Israel and really want to see the landscape this is a great way to spend a couple hours by yourself...
