Monument of the Helicopters Disaster — Attraction in Galil Elyon Regional Council

It is a bit tricky to find this place but when at the North of Israel it's a must visit place. Very moving and very sad, it commemorates the 1997 Israeli helicopter disaster and dedicated to its 73 fallen. It is beautiful and meaningful. When you're there don't miss the simpler, less "designed" part of the memorial which was created right after the disaster and before the formal moment with stones and water was built in 2008. אנדרטת אסון המסוקים ווייז : אתר ההנצחה לחללי אסון המסוקים מיקום : סמוך לצומת חורשת טל דרגת קושי : קלה חנייה : כן חניית נכים : כן הנגשה : כן עלות כניסה : חינם שולחנות פיקניק באתר : לא רכישת מזון ומשקאות באתר : לא שירותים : לא אודות : האתר מנציח ומכבד את זכר הנופלים בעת מילוי תפקידם. הנופלים באשר נפלו אות הם ומופת לעם ישראל כולו . זכרם לא ימוש מלבנו והאנדרטה הייחודית מסמלת את מהותו של המאבק הסזיפי שלנו על קיומו וערכיו של העם היהודי , המאבק על קיומו בציון-ישראל מדור לדור. רקע : נקודת תורפה של צה"ל הייתה השיירות שהובילו חיילים , אספקה וציוד למוצבי לבנון בדרך לחופשה וחזרה . השיירות נעו בצירים ידועים ומוכרים ,ללא יכולת לתמרן ובהן חיילים רבים, שהפכו ליעד לתקיפה. החלופה להובלת חיילים בדרך למוצבים הייתה הטסתם במסוקים . הוכשרו מנחתים ליד המוצבים ונערכו נהלים ופקודות . בליל כ"ח בשבט ה'תשנ"ז, 4 בפברואר 1997 , התנגשו 2 מסוקי סיקורסקי CH-53 סי סטליון, "יסעור", של חיל האוויר הישראלי שהובילו לוחמים מחטיבות הנח"ל , גולני ועוד לפעילות מבצעית במוצבי דלעת ובופור שבדרום לבנון. כל 73 הלוחמים ואנשי הצוות נספו באסון הכבד . התמונות המצורפות נוגעות לפלג הדן , מוצא מימי הדן דרומה שאנו רואים בו המשך וזיקה לאתר הנצחת חללי אסון המסוקים . אתר זה מוגדר כ "פלג הדן" . יוסי מירום , מנכ"ל מערך...

It's a sad and beautiful monument, reminding you how much young blood has been spilt in order for the state of Israel to survive, accentuated by the red trees and green trees.

This one of the spots where wreckage from the accident fell to.
