We arrived around 8:30 am. There was a park employee near the entrance that described each hike option. We chose the botanical hike which is the longest I believe and the employee reminded us to make sure that everyone had good shoes for hiking, enough water per person (at least 1.5 liters which we really drank) and sunscreen. If the weather is hot, I definitely wouldn't start later than 8:30/9:00am. It had great views and was somewhat challenging but not too bad. We had fun and appreciated the sections that had occasional shade as well as the occasional flowers scattered throughout. Unfortunately we were too tired to do the cave hike as well so we'll have to go back another time to do that one.

Interesting enough, and take your kids with you. My first time there, not a Waow, not amazing (like so many other parks in Israel), but still definitely enriching and educating. As I wrote, not in the Top 20 in Israel but worth your time for a weekend end activity with your kids, or simply yourself if you like Nature and history (and who doesn't?). And since I was there in the middle of the week and early in the morning, I had the place for myself ... and the marmots ;-). Anyway it has been acknowledged by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, so it sure does mean something, doesn't it?

Wadi Mearot is a beautiful learning place about how our human ancestors lived a few hundred of thousands of years ago. Children start to ask wonderful question while there and afterwards. Our ancestors were hunting animals and had a harsh and mostly much shorter life than we today. So it gives a lot to think. The trails are wonderfully marked. As the archeological trail is up a hill it is quite sunny. Better take good shoes and water. As usual in Israel.

Good space for picnics and worth to spend half a day there. There are also tour guides if needed and a cinematic in one of the caves explaining a bit on how life was eons ago. Very beautiful place to experience the beauty and uniqueness of the Israeli nature, great for families with multiple courses to choose from (whether round long trip to a short trip to exhibit and experience the beautiful and unique caves).

The Nahal Me’arot has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The stream is known and famous for its four caves, in which important remains were found that indicate the settlement of ancient man in the Carmel as early as 500,000 years ago. The caves in the entrance are accessible for kids, has a light show and a short film about the history of the place. There are several routes around here.
