The Gazelle Valley was a good place to go with kids in Jerusalem (we went in May, so the weather was nice: warm, and sunshine alternating with overcast).
The paths run parallel to the "natural core" of the reserve, in particular along the rehabilitated stream's path. The ponds along there were teeming with tadpoles and croaking frogs, which kept the kids occupied for a while.
The lush greenery and the trees make you forget you're in the heart of Jerusalem, and watching the deer is simply amazing. (They're shy, so sometimes you see several, and sometimes you just see one.)
The walking paths are flattened gravel and dirt paths, so they are wheelchair accessible, and also somewhat stroller accessible. Although I'd recommend using a stroller with larger wheels, to avoid getting stuck on irregularities in the paths. I managed with a Yoyo, but I'm a little stubborn and gentle with the stroller. Read moreThis place is nice. It is a nature reserve in the middle of the city. You can walk in the walkways but most of the reserve is off limits as marked with a rope. The gazelles are not easy to spot since they are roaming behind the rope behind trees and generally as wild animals keep away from humans. But if you wait and look closely you will spot them from time to time. Better bring binoculars since they might be far away. There are a few ponds with birds. A few nice locatuons to stop and sit down in the shade. And there are free booklets with games for children which teach them about the place and make the experience fun for them. Me and my 4 yrar old had a lot of fun. I gave it a 4 and not a 5 because I for some reason thought the gazelles will be walking all around us but they were hiding. Maybe it is unfair because we humans...

And of course there are the gazelles! We stay until just about closing and saw what seemed like dozens romping and playing throughout their protected space. A few bolder ones even wandered close to where we were sitting! It was truly a magical special afternoon! Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your...
