The scrolls of fire is an artwork made by Nathan Rappaport a scuptor of Polish origin. He is actually part of this artists' movement who tried to illustrate the overcoming of the Holocaust. He has 2 or 3 other sculptures in Israel, a famous one at the site of the Warsaw getto, a few other ones in the US,..

The scroll of fire lays in the middle of a forest of multiple types of trees, called the Forest of the Marthyrs When the sculpture was placed at its location, 6 millions trees were planted all around, one tree for each soul burnt in the camps.

At the beginning, I didn't know what to think about the sculpture, until I saw the image of the jewish free fighters carrying the Temple's Menora back to Jerusalem. Suddenly, I saw the arc of Titus in my mind. For 2000 years, Jews had the Arc of Titus to remind them that the Romans had taken everything from them. The Menora scene on the sculpture was showing me that the curse was over. The emotion got my eyes full of tears, I was free from the curse. (Nobody saw it, I wore sun glasses). That was my personal experience. I think that Art should be first approched with the heart and after with the mind. I also think that each Jew should go to the forest of the marthyrs and just look at the scene of the Menora on the sculpture, and go back home, free from the Roman's curse for ever. This site is all about feeling this place, so peaceful. Ok, don't take it too...

Great monument made by holocaust survivor and artist Nathan Rapaport. Of course, subject to your own interpretation, but it’s supposed to chronicle the struggles of the Jewish people from time immemorial until today. There is a plaque dedicated to Fritz Bauer who assisted in the capturing of Adolf Eichmann. Inside the monument there’s an inscription citing the Vision of the Valley of Dry Bones. Overall it’s pretty gloomy and heavy but hey,...

It was 1993, I was cycling from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. An Israeli friend had told me about them. A sombre memorial in a wild setting. Worth a visit though with sad thoughts. Learned on a later visit that the ashes of those who survived the Holocaust (and are now passing away) are scattered in the woodland area close to the monument.
