Getting to Cantina Tramin was an adventure in itself—winding mountain roads, one-car switchbacks, and narrow streets where buildings press right up against the asphalt, leaving no shoulder and no room for error. At times it was a white-knuckle, adrenaline-fueled drive, but thankfully Mike had started to master the art of navigating these tight Italian turns.

We arrived with only minutes to spare, catching up to our tour guide just as things got underway. The setting alone is breathtaking—Cantina Tramin rises like a modern sculpture against the backdrop of rolling vineyards and the Dolomite peaks beyond. Inside, the architecture is just as striking: clean lines, warm wood, and huge glass windows framing endless views of the valley.

The tour was engaging, weaving together the history of the winery, the unique terroir of Alto Adige, and the craftsmanship that goes into each bottle. The wines themselves were exceptional, from the crisp, aromatic Gewürztraminer they’re famous for to the bold reds that linger on the palate. È la nuova grande casa del Gewürztraminer: costantemente pervasa dalla luce, con lo sguardo rivolto alla vallata e le verdi braccia che idealmente cingono le vigne e vigilano sullo scorrere delle stagioni. Cantina Tramin è una realtà che riassume in sé tutti i caratteri tipici della propria terra: l’incanto della natura e le sue suggestioni polisensoriali, la precisione creativa e produttiva verso una qualità costante, la capacità di fare sistema e di cooperare. Tra le cantine sociali di più antica tradizione dell’Alto Adige, ha sede a Termeno sulla Strada del Vino. Proprietari della cantina sono 300 contadini viticultori che lavorano la terra nelle microzone di Termeno, Ora, Egna e Montagna su una superficie totale di circa 260 ettari, culla del vitigno Gewürztraminer, vera e propria bandiera di questi luoghi. La cantina produce mediamente 1,8 milioni di bottiglie ogni anno, destinate per il 75% al mercato nazionale, e per il restante 25% a quello estero. Il fatturato complessivo supera i 15 milioni di Euro. Pluripremiata negli anni (per ben oltre venti volte i nostri vini sono stati insigniti dei prestigiosi 3 Bicchieri) e costantemente citata nelle classifiche di qualità e nelle guide enogastronomiche internazionali, Tramin opera lungo tutta la catena del valore: produzione, vinificazione e distribuzione vengono gestite internamente da uno staff di professionisti estremamente coinvolto e appassionato.
