A Truly Memorable Experience at Elios Natural Wines in Sicily
Elios Organic Wine Tasting was nothing short of excellent! From the moment we arrived, we could feel the passion and dedication Nicola—the owner of the vineyard—pours into every aspect of his craft. He guided us through a tour of the vineyard, sharing his extensive knowledge about the different grape varieties, pruning methods, soil types, and the intricate process behind crafting their white, red, orange, and sparkling wines.
Beyond the wines, the vineyard is also home to olive trees and beehives, producing their own olive oil and honey—an incredible touch that speaks to their commitment to sustainability and quality.
As the sun began to set, we were seated at a large table with a stunning view of the mountains—an unforgettable setting for the tasting. We were provided apps from Nicola’s land: marinated olives, sun-dried tomatoes (truly the best I’ve ever tasted), bruschetta, black olive tapenade, their own olive oil, bread and a selection of local cheeses.
Adding to the warmth of the experience, Nicola’s father came out to greet us—a heartfelt moment that showed the deep pride and tradition behind Elios. Nicola is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also a gracious and passionate host.
This was, without a doubt, the best wine tasting tour I’ve ever done. We purchased three bottles to enjoy during the rest of our time in Sicily, and each sip will surely bring us back to that magical evening. Highly...
Read moreI’m not sure about you but when I think of Italy and Sicily in general, you think of family. At Elios, Nicola and Guido welcome you to their family with open arms. I have been to many wineries across the world and can say that this was an incredibly unique and personal experience which was a highlight of the trip and beats the factory style tastings and tours you usually find at the larger wine estates. Everything from intimate walk through the vineyards and the explanation of their approach to winemaking to the intimate wine and food tasting around a beautiful table outside overlooking the vineyards allows you to see that this is not only a business for them but a passion. We were lucky enough to be staying at a nearby villa but for those looking for a unique Sicilian wine tasting experience in Western Sicily, look no further. If you are traveling with a family, no issue at all. We brought our 3 young kids with us and they were more than happy to run around the vineyard for a couple hours and playing with the dogs and then enjoyed the snacks and food while the adults tasted the wine and chatted.
Side note: the olive oil and honey they make are also worth the tasting beyond the wines.
Thank you Nicola and Guido! And please say thank you to your lovely father as well. My kids are still talking about the...
Read moreAmazing experience! Nicola welcomed us on the wine yard and we started with a small walk through the wine plantation while he was giving us detailed explanations of the winemaking process and what makes the difference in order to get a good wine. We then went on along the olive trees and I learnt quite a bit about these resistant trees and what makes good olive oil. Finally we ended up at the bee hives which I think is Nicola’s secret passion. He has probably as much passion for his bee’s as he does for his wines. He gave so many interesting points and information which I did not know. After all the facts we continued to the wine tasting itself, starting with a great white wine, continuing with orange wines and their summer wine creation, followed by a beautiful red wine accompanied by wonderful products, like their honey and marmalade, fruits from the wineyard, salami, cheeses and olives! Oh and don’t forget to dip some bread in olive oil. Such a simple, yet great taste experience. The best thing is all products are natural biological! I surely will return for another visit because I probably only grasped half of all the information Nicola was giving us while I was overlooking the beautiful landscape...
