The history of the Dominio di Bagnoli dates back to the year 1000 with the foundation of a Benedictine monastery. Those hardworking monks are credited with the first, far-sighted land reclamation from which a centuries-old agricultural tradition began. In the year 1656 the family of the Widmann counts acquired the vast estate from the papal state and, in the same year, commissioned the Venetian architect Baldassare Longhena to build a large villa, which later became an ional monument. The building repeats in the architecture the motifs of the Venetian Rezzonico palace and is a magnificent testimony of the Baroque style. In the eighteenth century the residence became a meeting point for artists and nobles, as well as a privileged place for sumptuous parties and holidays.
