We made a reservation to have dinner and a wine tasting at the vineyard. At our arrival it already looked like they weren't really expecting us. We were placed in silly cheap chairs and were given a plastic (sealed) bag from the supermarket with soup/bread fingers. The wines were given to us without a proper introduction or story about the grapes, vineyard or area. Also the wines were quite acidic: white, rose and red, not very tasteful. When we were told to sit down for dinner we got given a plate of antipasti (quite ok), a plate with penne/cheese/tomatoes (boring and tasteless) and as a main a plate with fat, bones, skin and tiny bit of proper meat. No explanation whatsoever about what it was. We thought it was chicken but apparently it was pig meat. The main plate looked like roadkill and was awful. We send it back to the kitchen. Desert was a dry piece of hazelnut/chocolat pie, quite boring as well. Very disappointed we left quickly and had to pay 100 euro's for this bad experience. Maybe a proper wine tasting with a sommelier would do at Gebelias but avoid dinner at this place. Not...
Read moreDuring the May holidays, we visited Cantina Tenute Gabelias. The owner was very kind and polite. We tasted two wines—both were excellent and nicely presented. Upon departure, the owner kindly invited us to a dinner that he prepares and serves either inside the cantina or outdoors, with a focus on traditional dishes from the island of Sardinia.
The price per person offered was quite high, even though a bottle of wine per two people was included. We agreed to the dinner nonetheless, expecting another wonderful experience on the island. Unfortunately, we were completely disappointed. Plastic plates, plastic water cups, basic place settings, and food that resembled a picnic—entirely inappropriate and unworthy of any tourist.
Once again, great praise for the wine. Everything else is strongly...
Read moreWe visited Cantina Tenute Gebelias in Sardinia with my family and friends. After tasting the wines, which were really excellent, the owner offered to cook us dinner for a rather high price (higher than in the surrounding restaurants and agritourisms). We then booked dinner because we expected a lot for the price. But what followed was an extremely bad experience. Dinner was served entirely on plastic plates and glasses, we got a below-average cold cut for dinner, a little pasta and exactly one piece of meat for the main course. There was no dessert at all. The quality of the wine in this winery is good, but we strongly advise against...
