Museum of Cork — Attraction in Caragnani/Calangianus

I recently visited the Museum of Cork in Sardinia and had a truly delightful experience. The staff were exceptionally professional and accommodating. We opted for a guided tour in French, and I was thoroughly impressed by our guide's expertise and deep knowledge of the subject. She was engaging and made the tour interesting for all ages. We had seen all the "shaved" cork trees around the island and wanted to learn more. Visited on a rainy day in April when it wasn't busy. Great value entrance fee. The guide was friendly and informative and spoke very good English. Interessantissimo viaggio nel mondo insospettabilmente affascinante del sughero di cui abbiamo scoperto essere la Sardegna il migliore produttore al mondo. In questo museo, grazie a guide simpatiche e competenti, abbiamo conosciuto tantissime cose sul sughero, come avvengono i vari passaggi dalla pianta al tappo finito ma anche le lastre isolanti e altri prodotti. Ad es. il processo di "estrazione" (così viene chiamata l'operazione di asportazione della corteccia dal tronco) oppure la "bollitura" delle lastre e così via è tutto spiegato benissimo dalle guide e, in una grande stanza al primo piano, ci sono bacheche piene di tappi di tutte le misure e tipi e filmati per comprendere meglio quanto sentito prima al piano di sotto di questo ex convento del '700 poi riconvertito in carcere ed infine, grazie alla disponibilità dei cittadini di Calangianus, diventato l'attuale museo. Noi abbiamo passato un paio d'ore quasi magiche percorrendo più volte le stanze dove si trovano gli strumenti da lavoro donati dai cittadini del paese per costituire questa esposizione in quanto, ci hanno spiegato, praticamente ogni famiglia aveva uno o più persone che lavoravano il sughero.
