We've been visiting Tamatete for several years now, they have excellent food and a creative menu, great for lunch and dinner, The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and efficient and the owner is charming and always shoeless - but unfortunately this year I can only give it 3 stars. We visited twice recently and were disappointed that on both occasions the owner did not wear a mask, He is the one taking all the food and beverage orders at all the tables, And guests, once seated are all without masks, He needs to understand he is putting every guest at risk, he could easily transmit Coronavirus to every customer. I understand it is not comfortable to wear one, But as all his staff comply would it not be appropriate for him to do the same, - Or at the very least if he does not wish to do so stay out of the public area. Sorry to grumble but this is a busy restaurant with local and International customers of all ages and enclosed for dinner is a perfect place for mass transmission of the virus.
Read moreLocation is great, with fantastic assistance to get boat moored - ring Matteo. Drink was great; but tuna was very full of sinew which was disappointing due to it being tataki. We didn’t mention this though, even though it was below standard - do not buy this as it’s a waste of money.
The problem can when my wife put ‘pepper’ on her salad. Is crunched SO much, which pepper shouldn’t. When inspecting the pepper grinder, it was full of sand. This normally would have been sorted and new salad given. However the main woman came over and tired to convince us the sand in the grinder was Pepper?! The conversation was bizarre.. I even got some sand from the beach and compared it to the pepper from the grinder. It was exactly the same! Finally she conceded and gave us another salad. Shame as it’s cool spot
Be aware you have to pay for the toilet...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our dinner here. The restaurant is right in the beach and we had to step over beach sand to get to our table - super cool. There’s plenty of parking and it’s easy to get to (follow the signs). It’s a good sized restaurant, but given its summer we booked ahead.
The food was fantastic, super nice mix of modern touches and classic Italian dishes. We had the Crudo to start, which was very fresh and tasty. The Vongole pasta was great, not difficult to eat, and almost had a creamy texture to it. The local wine, per the recommendations of the owner, was fantastic and not costly at all. For the dessert, we had to order one of each - they were done in a really cool modern way and were full of surprises - literally!
All up a really cool experience and a must stop of you’re in the area...
