MMM Dolomites — Attraction in Cibiana di Cadore

I bought an expensive ticket to see all of the MMM museums, and have already seen all of them except this one, so I drove three hours out of my way to see this, paid for parking, and arrived to the shuttle area 5-10min before 4pm with the plan of taking the shuttle up and walking down after- only to be told there were no more shuttles up to the museum until 4:30, which is AFTER the museum stops letting people in. One would assume shuttles would run on whole hours if they do on the half, but apparently there was not a 4pm shuttle. This shuttle business is a scam! And being a 7km walk (or run) uphill, there was no way to make it by 4:30, even if I was a very fit runner. If the last shuttle going up is at 3:30, it would make sense to note that on your website and on Google maps! I guess this museum is not only in the business of fluffing up Messner's already ridiculous ego, but also scamming tourists (most of whom probably come because of a genuine interest in mountains and mountaineering). What a waste of money, gas, and time! In a perfect world, the museum would reimburse me at least for the parking and entrance ticket... Sono solo sulla montagna, mi fa compagnia il vento, circondato da cime imponenti che tanto dolore hanno visto durante la Grande Guerra, in fondo c’è Cortina, con le Tofane che la sovrastano, a destra il Sorapis e l’Antelao, a sinistra il Civetta e la Marmolada. Il tempo è mutevole, nuvole si alternano a sprazzi di sole. E’ bello, così tanto da essere commovente. Un poco sotto di me c’è il vecchio forte, in parte recuperato e adibito a museo. E’ il Messner Mountain Museum “Dolomites”, una lunga galleria silenziosa, da una parte vetrate che danno sulle montagne, dall’altra piccole camere espositive che accompagnano il visitatore in un viaggio nel tempo, il tutto intervallato da scale che portano alle tre torrette… i cannoni non ci sono più, ora moderne strutture in vetro e acciaio permettono di spaziare intorno con lo sguardo.

Questa è la sintesi della mia impagabile apprezzatissima esperienza. La posizione è meravigliosa, la location azzeccata, la ristrutturazione ben riuscita. Potrete trovare tutte le informazioni nel sito del museo e in quello del Monte Rite, sufficientemente esaustivi.

Per arrivarci, ho lasciato l’automobile nel parcheggio presso il Passo Cibiana (€ 5,00 per tutto il giorno) e di là, visto il tempo atmosferico e quello a disposizione, ho usufruito del comodo servizio navetta (€ 15,00 andata e ritorno) per superare i circa 600 m di dislivello e 7 km di stretto percorso a picco sul passo ed arrivare al rifugio Dolomites (la Scheda Rifugio é disponibile nel sito del CAI), dove vale la pena di fermarsi a gustare qualche piatto. Una breve salita a piedi e ho raggiunto la sommità del monte e il “museo nelle nuvole”. Il costo del biglietto del museo è € 12,00. Gli animali non sono ammessi. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the museum despite our 2 attempts. Arrived at 15:45 but were told that it closes at 16:30pm (website says 5pm for June) and that the shuttle service makes a last trip to pick up last guests and museum staff just after 16:00.
