Read moreBeautiful 12th century Castle! We were actually very surprised at how big this castle was one of the biggest we've seen here in Northern Italy, with the exception of those in Aosta Valley. You can walk on the wall almost all the way around the Castle so you get panoramic views. This was an hour and a half from my house but definitely worth the trip. The entrance fee was €7 each.
Dogs are allows on the grounds ( we took ours) but not allowed inside the buildings (we took turns going inside). There are a few places you'll definitely want to go inside. There is an armory room, a food storage room, a room to watch reenactments of the famous battles that took place in the area, a movie room where you can watch a short documentary about the history of the castle in multiple languages, and there is also a nice bar and cafe towards the end.
And while you're up there be sure to stop and have a pizza at Pizzaria La Rocca only 15 minutes away and some of the best tasting pizzas...
Read moreWhat a jewel to visit. You can easily spend 3- hours (or more!) here. We got to take photos with knight's armour, do crossbow shooting (arrows with rubber tips, so perfectly safe for kids) and do a mini knight's training course. It's very affordable (we paid €14 for 2 adults and one 5 year-old). The people working there are extremely friendly and eager to explain things. We had a very enjoyable afternoon. I would recommend to come as early as possible to be able to park at the castle's official parking lot. We arrived around midday, and parked in the village below. It's a rather challenging climb up to the castle from there, especially...
