Donnafugatta Winery Visiting Donnfuggata Contessa Winery was a great pleasure and experience on our visit to Sicily in November. The grounds of the winery are as beautiful as the taste of their wines. They have been producing acclaimed wines year after year. They were founded by Giacomo Rallo and his lovely wife Gabriella in 1983. Giacomo is a fourth-generation winemaker who has made his mark in the Italian wine industry. Gabriella, too, has had tremendous input in the winemaking process as a pioneer of feminine viticulture. She is also responsible for the landscaping of the Contessa winery. I do not claim to be a wine expert, but I know if I like a wine and the difference between industrial winemaking and craft winemaking. We had a tour of the grounds and a glass of sparkling Rosé, Rosa D&G 2023. Our tasting consisted of five wines: two whites, Sur Sur 2023, a Bianco, and my favorite, Sul Vulcano Bianco 2021, two reds, Floramundi 2022, Mille e Una Notte 2020, a Sicilia DOC Rosso, and a dessert wine. The food pairings perfectly matched to bring out the food and wine tastes. I am not a red wine drinker, but even those tantalized my taste buds. Dessert wine is something I have never liked, but their Ben Rye 2022 was phenomenal. They paired it with a ricotta cheesecake. Out of this world! If you have the opportunity to visit this or one of the other four wineries in Sicily, do not miss the extraordinary experience waiting for you. Like me, you will leave with lovely memories and a bottle or three of wine.

We booked the 4 wine tasting and it was magnificent. Our host Ignazio was so welcoming and knowledgeable and the whole experience was positive. We have never been to a wine tasting before and Ignazio was so patient and answered all our questions. The setting of this winery is beautiful with stunning gardens and views, and the house and company have a rich and fascinating history.

This winery is a gorgeous setting including the interior design and gardens. Our visit included an unforgettable wine tasting experience. The wines were exceptional—especially the Ben Ryé, which was a standout. Anna was a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome. A must-visit!
