Aug 24th I felt an extreme bout of altitude sickness on my way up to Refugio Lagazuoi from Refugio Lavarella on my 3rd day of hiking the Alta Via 1. I didn't eat a big lunch and I also had never been that high up in altitude before. Lesson learned!!! I felt very nauseated, disoriented, fatigued and dizzy by the time I reached the last descent of the day in the Cable Car Lagazuoi. However Chris and his wonderful wife Anna helped me out of the cable car on the bottom, got me some fresh water, food, and walked me to a nice bench to sit on while I recovered. Don't underestimate the mountains! While beautiful I also felt very lucky in finding angels that helped me when I really needed it. I ended up vomiting several times on that bench and felt mildly better. Second pic is of me today at a lower altitude and feeling closer to myself again! Chris and Anna shared a kindness that I don't think I could ever repay. I hope they are able to recieve this message from me so they know I'm alright and that I am forever grateful for their help! They are beautiful people!!!

Also a second big thank you to anyone that came by to ask me how I was doing when I was sitting/lying there. It was very hard to string full sentences at the time, but I am very thankful 😊 Italy is a marvelous country!...

Second time here, first time was last year, it was sooooo busy the queue was like 1km long just to get in the lift. This time we got smart and come in early in the morning so it didnt take long. We skied down from number 11 then turn to 9A ( very easy to miss and is very flattttttt!) on Alta Badia side, once you reach the end there is a small passage next to the hotel that leads you to the bus stop, this year the shuttle costs €7 about 15 mins drive, it toile us one hour to get on a bus last year due to how busy it was! This time we got on right away.

Then the bus takes to all the way to the lift. It costs roughly €16 for a single journey in 2023, but included in most Alta Badia ski pass. I only give 4 stars because despite its less busy, they still squeeze you like Sardine! I was cheeky and refuse to get on the first lift due to crowdedness, and waited to be the first one to get on the next lift so I got amazing view and pictures 😎 (but still got pushed really hard to a corner) another reason to remove one star is the toilet facility at the top! It’s very basic and facing the lift! And next to a flimsy barrier....

For a couple to go up and down is 60Euros. If you hike up it will cost you 43 euros just to ride down in 3minutes. Keep that in mind in case you are on a budget.

The parking lot is 5Euros and fills up in the summer. We arrived at 9 AM and it was mostly empty.

If you hike up it’s 3 miles with an elevation change of 2,200 ft! Unlike some other reviews there is NO water and no rest stops along the way, so plan accordingly with enough water. At the top you will be greeted with amazing views.

Food at top is very good

YOU MUST TRY...
