It's a very nice hike. If you want to do the via ferrata, the gear is not essential if you're experienced as this poses no technical difficulties. If you just started doing via ferrata, this is a great one to get used to the gear. It's best to park your car at the St Uberto parking and then follow 401 path to the bottom of the waterfall. There are two via ferrata starting at the waterfall. I would recommend to begin with the one starting a little bit upstream from the waterfall, not the one starting at the bridge. You'll go behind the waterfall midway and then the cable will end at a resting place. Few tens of meters down the path, before a bridge (with a beautiful view) on the left hand side it starts a different ferrata. The entrance is not signposted in any way and covered by vegetation. If you approach this way, you'll be climbing it down, but it's extremely easy. You'll end up at the bottom of the waterfall, where you started. Then you can follow the same path...

VERY IMPORTANT: i’ve seen reviews saying that some people did the hard route (via ferata) without carabiners and i have to say, i did it without equipment with my partner and didn’t feel safe. If you want to do the full via ferata loop you will most likely need carabiners. While the track isn’t technically difficult, there are some really steep and scary parts and even one wrong slip and it’s game over.
