The trail is beautiful, and the lake looks like a Japanese garden shaped by nature. It’s less crowded than other trails around Cortina, and I loved the variety of terrains along the 12 km loop.

How the route works: • You start at Ponte di Ru Curto. • After about 2 km, you reach a fork with two options:

Right – via Formin • The climb is longer and a bit tougher at the beginning. Left – towards Lago Federa and then Forcella Rossa • You reach the lake earlier and then continue the loop. • On the descent through Forcella Rossa, you face a very steep slope with lots of loose stones. This part is challenging and requires caution.

Many people don’t do the full loop: some take the shorter path and return the same way they came from the lake, while others follow a road that seems accessible by car.

My tip: The full loop including Forcella Rossa is absolutely worth it for the views, but if you prefer a steadier and safer hike, go...

Beautiful lake - if you like photography, you will love this lake!

The walk up to the lake is steep (nr 437-434) and will take you 2h of climbing. (Afterwards 1,5h going down!)

Apparently there is another road which is less steep and little easier ( after 437, take 434 to left - to right is the heavy climb - and then follow 431 to the lake - see map pictures)

Really recommend to visit this place. The walk is also beautiful! (&...
