Eremo di San Michele Arcangelo — Attraction in Formia

A very small church carved into the stone of the mountain at 1160 meters above sea level. We went two weeks ago. We parked our car at Rifugio Pornito (it takes about 20 minutes going up the mountain in the car to reach the refugee, sometimes very steep and narrow streets). There is a small parking lot where you can leave your car and you will be two steps away from starting the path. Il sentiero n. 960 che porta all'eremo di San Michele e sulla cima del Redentore si può comodamente imboccare in prossimità del Rifugio Pornito, raggiungibile da Maranola, frazione di Formia. La cittadina formiana è collegata sia a Napoli che a Roma dall’autostrada A1, uscita Cassino. Arrivati a Formia, si procede per Maranola, arroccata su una collina a 268 metri di altezza.  Oltrepassato il borgo medievale si deve percorrere per circa 5 chilometri la strada provinciale per il Redentore sino ad arrivare al quadrivio in località Campone. In corrispondenza del quadrivio bisogna proseguire a destra e percorrere la strada asfaltata per circa un chilometro. Al di sotto del Rifugio Pornito, c’è un parcheggio con le indicazioni del sentiero del Monte Redentore. Il sentiero da percorrere per giungere all’eremo non presenta particolari difficoltà, è anzi adatto alle famiglie, data la buona tenuta e l’agevolezza del camminamento lungo circa 7,5 km andata e ritorno. Il tragitto si compie in un’ora e 30 minuti,è sconsigliato in piena estate per via della totale esposizione al sole. Lungo il sentiero incontrerete anche una statua, raffigurante la Madonna con il volto rivolto verso il mare . Una volta giunti all'eremo potrete decidere di tornare indietro oppure proseguire per raggiungere la statua del Cristo Redentore ,circa altri 15 minuti di cammino lungo il sentiero . Il panorama mozzafiato e la quiete di questi luoghi sono sicuramente adatti a momenti di profonda...
