The place is abandoned and we were the only ones there. Really cool to see the ruins of a castle from 1143. There is parking all the way up through the gates where you can turn around. Read moreProbably built in the Norman period, the documents found at Castello Svevo or Castelluccio di Gela date back to 1143, when Il Conte di Butera gave it to Abbot San Nicolò. Made with local chalky stone it is believed that it could be a fortified palace rather than having a military function because it is far from the inhabited center and has a limited extension.
An ancient legend tells that the castle was inhabited by a beautiful woman that enchanted visitors and bystanders with its singing. The men conquered by his charm did not return.
Probabilmente costruito in epoca normanna le documentazioni rinvenute del Castello Svevo o Castelluccio di Gela, risalgono al 1143 , quando Il Conte di Butera lo dona all’abate San Nicolò.
