I am on the fence as to whether to give this 4 or 5 stars. When I compare to courses in the US, it is a 4. When I compare to the courses that I have played in Italy, it is a 5.

My wife and I REALLY enjoyed playing Circolo Golf dell'Ugolino. It is a spectacular golf course. The oldest in Italy. There are amazing views. The holes are playable, with enough challenge to make it fun for all levels.

Did I say the views are amazing? We are big fans of the area in general, and the views from the golf course were everything that we could have imagined.

The course is in good shape - not great. The fairways are good. The rough is good. The greens are good but SLOW. They roll reasonably true, so once you figure out the speed, you are fine (just hard to hit it that hard:)).

We arrived fairly early and were surprised that the gate was closed. When we drove up close to, it opened:) I think we were the first non-members to play. The person in the pro shop arrived at the same time that we did, as did the head caddy.

The pro shop had just enough for us. We each bought a shirt and wore it while playing. They also had gloves and balls.

The carts are pretty old. They worked fine, but you really felt every bump as the shocks / springs were pretty worn. The practice area was sufficient.

We played really quickly as there weren't very many people on the course. This was nice. We did not have to hurry or wait until maybe the 16 hole when we caught up with the members.

We had lunch at the club. It is my understanding that this is a fairly exclusive club that allows others to play after 8. The food and service were fine.

Last comment about the day. We REALLY enjoyed ourselves. It is a beautiful...

Three stars is a combination of two raitings. The course olis 4/5 stars the restaurant is 1-2/5 stars. The course is great but challenging. Be prepared to walk up down up down ☺️ other than that, its a good course. The restaurant on the other hand. We had the feeling they were ripping us off. We ordered a capucino and coca cola, and that was 6 euro. All fine, just the problem was there was no recipe except for a pper that said BAR 6euro. We were very confused but brushed it off. After playing, we went to eat because we had a 5h drive ahead of us. Big mistake. The food was good, but the price was absurd. For two people, one had gnocchi and the other one had three slices of beef, potato and spinach, one glass of vine and one cocacola, and each had a 1slice of cake. All of this was 50euro! They had writen some scribbles ona paper, but again no recipe, no idea what was so expensive, the old lady at the cashier box was avoiding all eye contact and seemed irritated. Over all, very bad.

Over all Course good but challenging Restaurant...

Grossly overpriced and hidden fees. Be prepared to spend at least 100 + more euro than you're planning on. I kept asking for clarity on the pricing and the guy kept saying "oh well how about just for you my friend"... --- very very fishy. Tourist trap? Also when asked if balls/tees were at least included in the (120 euro!) rental set, he replied, "well it's pretty tough to play golf without balls, so yes, you obviously need to buy them." Course was in bad shape, gave us a clearly used cart with trash still in it, and felt most unwelcome the entire time. Only semi redeemable quality of this place are the...

18 strikingly beautiful holes in good condition. There is very little water so you keep your golf balls..., but the holes still offer plenty of variation. The first nine are very hilly so a trolley or a golf cart is recommended. The staff is friendly and don't miss the restaurant which has a really nice à la carte. Though if you come at a buffet day there are better restaurants in the area.
