After an exhilarating tour of Mount Etna with Mr. Excursions, we had the pleasure of concluding our day at the renowned Gambino Vini. Nestled on the slopes of Etna, this winery is not just a place to taste wine; it's a destination that offers a sensory feast.
Gambino Vini stands out as one of the most picturesque wineries in the world, boasting breathtaking views that are as intoxicating as the wines themselves. The vineyards benefit from the rich volcanic soil of Etna, which imparts a unique minerality and robustness to their wines. Known for their exquisite Nerello Mascalese and Carricante varieties, Gambino Vini produces wines that are as dynamic and spirited as the volcano they originate from.
Our visit was made even more special by Melinda, our host, whose expertise and passion for Sicilian wines shone brightly. She guided us through a fabulous lunch paired with a tasting of Gambino’s awarded wines. Melinda was not only knowledgeable about each pairing but also exceptionally generous with the pours, ensuring we fully experienced the depth and flavour profiles of each vintage.
The combination of stunning scenery, exceptional wines, and Melinda’s warm hospitality made our visit to Gambino Vini a highlight of our Sicilian adventure. Whether you're a seasoned oenophile or a casual wine enthusiast, a visit to Gambino Vini is a must. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore the best of what Sicily has to offer!
Grazie Mille Melinda, and the Gambino team, for a fabulous...
Read morePerched on the north slopes of Mount Etna at about 2,700 feet, Gambino Winery is the perfect blend of volcanic terroir, warm hospitality, and great food and wine. We visited after a morning exploring Etna’s lava fields and craters.
We were greeted with glasses of Feud’o Sicilia Bianco, crisp, mineral, and refreshing, the ideal palate-opener as our host explained the unique growing conditions: breezes that keep the vines naturally healthy, volcanic soils full of minerality, and high elevations that lock in acidity. We listened and stood among the vines with the mountain looming above.
Lunch was served in a glass-walled terrace with clouds drifting past. We had a spread of local cheeses and salumi, roasted eggplant, olives, and sun-dried tomatoes with olive oil and crusty bread, followed by a bright gazpacho and handmade pork sausage. Each course was paired with wines that showed just how expressive Etna can be:
Tifeo Etna Bianco – crisp citrus and saline minerality. Tifeo Etna Rosato – strawberry and herbs with refreshing acidity. Duvanera Sicilia Rosso (Nero d’Avola) – ripe plum, spice, and velvety tannins. Alicant Sicilia Rosso (Nerello Mascalese) – elegant, high-altitude red with cherry, smoke, herbs, and volcanic flint. My personal favorite.
The wines flowed generously, and the hospitality felt like family. One of the owners dropped by to say hello. Strongly recommended if you’re anywhere near...
Read moreThe best experience ever. Spent days and nights looking for the best wine experience in Etna region reading tons of reviews and finally came up with Gambino after second try to book it. Wineries either have poor scenere and wineyard but welcoming owners and staff, either has good lunch and high prices, Gambino had everything positive- scenic views, nice wineyard, cellar full of different size of barrels (no ancient palmento), tasty food and very good prices. But most charming of it all was how we were met and welcomed. Never had such a feeling in any other type of restaurant or official place with so many tourists. We were treated like old family members that just came back from the long trip. Difference from other wineries that Gambino tasting menu is more than a sip - you can ask for more and they will not say no and this one detail makes it all magic happen - that you are special as a guest. That special day - 25 April Italy were celebrating Liberation Day so all the owners family were present having lunch with all the tourists and then came to us and greeted. This all experience left nothing but the best emotions that did not left us until now. For the wines as we like almost all of them but whites are much more colorfull and rich in taste than reds, but red Dragone is worth tasting and buying if you will have a chance. Special thanks to our...
