Forte Belvedere Gschwent — Attraction in Magnifica Comunità degli Altipiani Cimbri

This is the only well-preserved fort in a chain of Austro-Hungarian forts built before the start of the first world war to hold the then border between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy. There are several in the Lavarone area, and all can be visited. Fort Belvedere has been restored and made accessible to the public - but not accessible for anyone with impaired mobility. To roam about the underground tunnels freely, and read about this conflict, and to see artefacts and film from that time... gives a sense of the similarities and contrasts with the better known experiences of trench warfare on the Western Front. We all know that the Great War was marked by terrible casualties because military technology at that time greatly favoured defensive warfare. All offensive warfare came necessarily with the tremendous cost of high casualties, and a death rate that would never be accepted in warfare today. There is a small bar next to the fort, and three toilets, male, female and accessible. There is also a picnic area. All of these can be accessed without paying the entrance fee. Forte Belvedere è una fortificazione austroungarica risalente alla prima guerra mondiale si raggiunge facilmente dalla nota località turistica di Lavarone. La strada è bella,panoramica ben segnalata e giunti a destinazione c'è un bel parcheggio. Da lì per andare al Forte si prosegue a piedi un po'in mezzo al bosco e per il resto all'aperto ammirando un bellissimo panorama, arrivati al forte già si vede l'imponente struttura ben conservata poi si entra i piani sono due e uno sotterraneo li sotto fa un po' fresco e parecchio umido anche d'estate è bene vestirsi, poi si incomincia a girare per il percorso programmato dalla direzione tra lunghissimi corridoi e le tante stanze che in origine erano adibite ai consueti usi logistici di caserma dei soldati ed anche e soprattutto con le tante postazioni di difesa il tutto ben descritto e segnalato con cartelli e targhe che spiegano bene i tanti locali della visita. Il forte fa anche da museo ed è veramente un bel museo ricco di reperti di tutti i tipi ed è molto interessante vedere queste cose lì esposte e catalogate per la loro storia si va dalle armi, all'abbigliamento invernale specie visto il clima rigido di montagna, all'oggettistica fatta dai soldati, le divise storiche molto belle con i copricapo vari tipi di elmetti e tanta svariata oggettistica di uso interno al forte e tanto altro ancora. Per una maggiore informazione in qualche locale si riproduce un video multimediale che spiega molto bene la storia di Forte Belvedere, volendo c'è anche un'ascensore per salire ai piani o sennò le scale. Interessante è anche il giro che si fa dentro le postazioni per cannoni una registrazione sonora fa sentire le urla in tedesco dei comandi per aprire il fuoco col cannone e il flagoroso scoppio è molto suggestivo direi sembra di tornare indietro nel tempo a quei terribili momenti vissuti dai poveri soldati. La lunga visita poi prosegue all'esterno girando tra le cupole dei cannoni ancora presenti che escono dal terreno camminando sopra il tetto della casamatta il grande fossato che divide la struttura da un'altra e tutta la fortificazione lì ancora intatta da notare lì fuori si vede bene la posizione strategica del forte che controllava molto bene tutta la Val d'Astico e tutte le belle montagne li intorno veramente un bel posto di veduta unico nel suo genere per dominare ed impedire all'esercito Italiano di avanzare, certamente speriamo che questi posti restino solo un ricordo storico del nostro passato perché non succeda mai più. Per finire c'è un bar le toilette ed uno shop souvenir per portarsi a casa qualche bel ricordo di storia molto vera di questa zona, soprattutto qualche bel libro che racconta molto bene tutta la storia e gli avvenimenti accaduti qui. Il Forte Belvedere merita di essere visto è un museo molto importante sia dentro che fuori ed una storia vera tutti ne sono interessati ho visto ed anche i bambini si divertono molto, una gita o una vacanza turistica e culturale da fare per tutti da non perdere assolutamente....

Spectacular WWI Austro-Hungarian bunker-fortress where you can get a feel of the harrowing experience of young soldiers in extreme conditions along a murderous Alpine frontline. Tens of thousand died in the inferno of that perfect landscape. Many war artifacts presented in a well-restored building that kept its gloomy atmosphere intact. Panels in Italian German and English are useful but there should be more info on the items themselves as well as on the spot live historical/artistic animation. Do take the long walk down the damp and chilly tunnels to the outposts and imagine what the guys went through. This was Europe not so long ago. Be prepared for walking and a lot of stairs.
