Very nice and fairly easy mountain walk up to Monte Capanne. Start at the cable car on route 1. If you are used to Alpine mountain walking, the trip takes about 1.5-2 hours. You will see beautiful nature and great views throughout the walk. It is very empty as 99.9% of people take the cable car. The top of Monte Capanne is very busy and completely built up with telecom and TV antennas. Hence, enjoy your walk up.

Hiking the Monte Capanne was great fun, especially since the way 101 up is very easy to follow and pretty beautiful as well. The view from the top across the island and beyond is amazing! Thanks to the nice lady of the little café, she was very sweet. We went down by foot too, it's a nice 1-day-tour (2,5 hours to the top, 2 hours having a break + lunch there, 1.5 hours back..more or less.)

CHI PIU’ IN ALTO SALE … Bonatti amava dire che “Chi più in alto sale, più lontano vede. Chi più lontano vede, più a lungo sogna.” ….. qui sognerete ad occhi aperti Il monte Capanne è la cima più alta delle isole dell’arcipelago toscano. Scegliete una giornata con aria tersa, magari una mattina in cui il giorno prima c’è stato un bel vento che ha soffiato via nuvole e foschia. La partenza è da Marciana e i cestelli di metallo possono far paura a chi soffre di vertigini, ma se supererete tutto questo, godrete di un panorama incantevole. Riuscirete a vedere l’isola che sfuma in lontananza e attorno le varie isole dell’arcipelago: Pianosa, Giglio, Montecristo, Capraia, Giannutri …. In cima troverete anche un piccolo terrazzo e un bar dove prendere il sole e sorseggiare un aperitivo. Salite fino alle antenne dove potrete ammirare le vallate che portano verso Cavoli e Pomonte Un consiglio: se al livello del mare fa caldo, sulla vetta potrebbe essere particolarmente fresco, perciò portatevi un giacchettino per coprirvi.

La zona alle pendici del Monte Capanne, è caratterizzata da macchia mediterranea (presenta anche molti castagni) e grandi rocce granitiche, sotto le quali si nascondono antichi insediamenti, alcune erose dal vento, hanno assunto col tempo delle curiose e particolari forme. Con un po' d'attenzione e di fortuna si possono osservare isolati branchi di mufloni o il maestoso volo di qualche splendido rapace. Per raggiungere la vetta del Monte Capanne, oltre ai numerosi sentieri, vi è una cabinovia biposto che parte da Marciana, aperta nel periodo estivo. In pochi minuti si può raggiungere la cima del massiccio, godendo di un panorama unico! La vetta del monte è la più alta dell'isola (1019 metri). Alla stazione di partenza sono presenti Bar, Pizzeria e Ristorante. Alla stazione di arrivo Rifugio e Bar.

Abbiamo scelto di arrivare in cima usufruendo della cabinovia. Il parcheggio è gratuito e il costo del biglietto andata/ritorno è di € 18 per persona. Si può salire anche a piedi in un paio d'ore di cammino (di buon passo) lungo un sentiero segnato o anche tramite ferrata. La cabinovia è dotata di 55 gabbiette che trasportano 2/3 persone per volta (abbiamo visto salire anche cani). Arrivati in cima il panorama è mozzafiato, complice una giornata limpidissima, si gode di una visuale a 360°,siamo riusciti a scorgere anche le coste della Corsica. È presente un bar con servizi igienici. Il costo del biglietto non è proprio economico, ma si considerino i costi di gestione, e poi la visuale ripaga sicuramente. Esperienza da fare!
