Spiaggia di Mascali — Attraction in Mascali

A strange sort of place, I wish I knew what’s going on. As far as my Italian goes, the signs say the beach is permanently closed for swimming and fishing. A big sewer? drain? pioe right in the middle of the beach may or may not be a clue. The lidos either side of it appear to operate normally, and the beach may not be very busy (which is nice) but still full of tourists, including numerous Italians, swimming and fishing. As such, the beach is pleasant, you may want rubber soles but one can manage without them and the round stones include all kinds of marble. The water is clean and transparent, or at least it was when we were there. The lido on the left (facing the sea) seems to have a window in its kiosk to serve this beach. All in all, a good place near Catania, but...

North Mascali beach. First week of October. Because of the sadly impressive amounts of garbage in the eucalyptus tree forest before the beach, four stars: beautiful view till Giardini-Naxos/Taormina/hills and even Calabria further up North, not many people (actually almost empty with sometimes two or three locals), an interesting alternative to sand beaches, lovely to lie on and play with, beautiful smaller and bigger stones, many fish to watch, clear waters, smooth waves only on the very shore, ideal for children aged 5 up who have already a bit of swimming experience, sun/warm till...

La spiaggia di Mascali ha un grande potenziale, il mare è bello,la vista sull'Etna è suggestiva e l'atmosfera potrebbe essere davvero piacevole per una giornata di relax. Tuttavia ,durante la mia visita, quest'estate ho notato un problema ricorrente, troppa spazzatura lasciata ovunque, bottiglie di plastica, cartacce,che restavano li anche nei giorni successivi, senza alcun intervento di pulizia. E' un peccato vedere un posto cosi bello trascurato in questo modo.Basterebbe un po' piu di attenzione e senso civico da parte dei visitatori, ma anche una gestione piu' attenta da parte del comune o degli enti preposti alla pulizie...
