I recently had the pleasure of visiting Parco Regionale della Murgia Materana and I must say, the experience was truly breathtaking. The landscape was absolutely beautiful, and the views of Matera were simply wonderful.
The park is a true gem in the heart of Italy, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys hiking or exploring the great outdoors. The trails offer a range of difficulty levels, so there's something for everyone.
One of the highlights of my visit was the opportunity to see the ancient rupestrian churches and settlements that are scattered throughout the park. These structures are truly remarkable and offer a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the region.
Overall, I would definitely recommend a visit to Parco Regionale della Murgia Materana to anyone who is looking for a unique and unforgettable experience in Italy. The beauty of the landscape and the rich history of the area make it a truly special place that is not...
Read moreDuring my research I found a photo that was taken from the inside of a cave located in Parco Regionale della Murgia, Materna. I became obsessed with getting my own photo. It wasnt easy. My son-in-law escorted me on the short but steep hike to one of the many caves. I was very proud of the results but realized this was no trek to be taken lightly. At 70 years old and in great shape I managed to lie on my back for the shot (see silhoutee of my legs. The photo of the outside of the cave from taken across the way from an area of th Sassi. Once you get to the park you will notice small arrows pointing you in the right direction. You do not need to cross the bridge. Drive to the park and follow the signs. Beware! tha the cave isnt easy to find or to get to but if you are like me and you have to get the shot. wear sturdy sneakers, travel light and...
Read moreWe started from Ponte Tibetano della Gravina - Accesso al Parco della Murgia Materana. There is a car park there but it is ZTL, however, it is only a 10 minute walk from paid parking outside of the ZTL. The hike can be done in 60-90 minutes without stopping, going down and across the bridge and zigzagging up to the other side for the nice views and making your way back the same way (it is not a loop). The path is relatively well marked (without signs) and visualisation of the bridge makes it easy to trek back the same way. We spent 2 hours exploring the view points and caves. Definitely recommend closed shoes as there is broken glass, loose/rocky ground and steep sections - not too dissimilar to the Cinque Terre hikes. I imagine it would be fairly unbearable in 40 degree heat but it was very pleasant in...
