A heartfelt, family-run gem in Montefalco – more than a winery, it’s a memory
I visited Bocale Wine in April and had one of the most meaningful wine experiences of my life. What made it unforgettable wasn’t just the wine — it was the people behind it.
I was welcomed for a private tasting in their family cellar, surrounded by barrels and the comforting scent of aging wine. It wasn’t a commercial setup — it was intimate, rustic, and full of character.
What truly made the visit special was meeting the entire Valentini family: Valentino, his mother, father, brother, wife, and even his young son. Each of them shared their story and passion with such warmth and humility that I felt like a guest in their home, not just a visitor at a winery.
The wines are exceptional. The Montefalco Rosso was vibrant and structured, and the Montefalco Sagrantino was deep, bold, and beautifully balanced. Every glass told a story of tradition, craftsmanship, and care.
If you’re traveling through Umbria and want an authentic, intimate wine experience, Bocale is an absolute must. I left with bottles of wine — and lasting memories. Truly...
Read moreWe had a thoroughly enjoyable time at Bocale with our excellent host Valentino. Valentino is an absolute gentleman with a visible passion for all things wine. He spoke in great detail about every aspect of the wine making process and made us feel incredibly welcome. We loved his stories about the history of the vineyard and how it has developed through the generations. This is all said before even mentioning the wine tasting itself, beautiful buttery white wine and delicious dry reds paired with bruschetta and their very own olive oil, absolutely fabulous! Valentino even took time to talk us through the local area and the best places to visit. Highly recommend this experience for anyone...
Read moreWe visited for a wine tasting and it was an amazing experience. Valentino was a great host and walked us through the history of Bocale, which has been in the family for generations, and how they produce the wine. We visited the cellar to see the the wine production where Valentino explained the Italian wine classification system. After we tasted the wines with detailed explanations of how each is produced, what grapes, how long before the skins are removed, what barrels, and so on. As an engineer, I very much appreciated all the details. The wine...
