Our family of four stayed for one week in the 2 1/2 bedroom expansive, beautifully appointed apartment in the converted olive oil mill at the castle. We are experienced travelers, but this was truly the best vacation of our lives. How can you feel anything but spoiled when you are relaxing at the castle pool after truffle hunting in the forest, wine tasting in the castle, and before eating an amazing meal at a local restaurant? ||||This really is a special place and I would recommend it for larger groups (you can rent out both refurbished apartments in the converted olive oil mill), or for a romantic honeymoon stay for a couple.||||The castle is located in beautiful countryside, about 2 hours drive from each of Florence or Rome, so is in a great central location. We weren't sure how driving would be, so we took a train from Florence to the closest town to the castle, Chiusi, and rented a car there. But we found it very easy and comfortable driving, including for our trip down to Rome afterwards.||||The warm and welcoming family that own the castle (Lorenzo, Rikke, and their daughters) provide wine tours of their excellent winery, a fascinating castle tour, and recommendations of local restaurants, activities or towns to visit. We highly recommend day trips to Assisi and Orvieto, but there are many options.||||We also cooked in the spacious kitchen using local ingredients, including our hunted truffles! And we enjoyed eating on the back yard patio and enjoying the castle's wine under the stars. The town at the castle also has an excellent restaurant where we had some of the finest lasagne we have ever had!||||While the castle is in the countryside and can provide a secluded getaway for those wanting to relax, hike and escape, there is also more than enough to see and do in the many nearby towns and cities. ||||The beds were comfortable and we slept so well. One thing that was important to us because we both had to work during part of our vacation, was having reliable internet, and we were glad to find that. The hardest part of this vacation was leaving and we cannot wait to return.||||We can't recommend it enough, and I am sighing wistfully as I write this, missing our...

Read moreI came to the area for the Rossini Opera Festival (in nearby Pesaro) and used the opportunity to book a room at Castello di Montegiove. The castle is located in a very beautiful area, within a tranquil environment. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Food (I attended breakfasts only) was excellent. ||||Here is the problem though. I do not have the luxury of not doing any work while I am away on vacation -- which means that I need a reliable Internet connection. The connection that I experienced during my stay at Castello di Montegiove was intermittent and very frustrating. This wobbly sometimes-on-sometimes-off connection was not working for me at all. I ended up taking my laptop every day to a hotel where a friend of mine was staying in Pesaro, and working in his room for a few hours. Castello di Montegiove is charming, beautiful, unique. However without a reliable Internet connection I will not be back. ||||Additional note to travelers: plan your driving route ahead of time and do not rely solely on GPS-based systems (always a good advice, but especially here). GPS systems (I used two different ones) sometimes send you to exotic routes through narrow provincial roads that can easily be avoided with some planning. Driving some of these side roads after midnight on my way back from Pesaro, courtesy of the automatic car route planner, was at times...
