Great starting point to hike to Gola de Gorropu. Some experience is a plus as the whole journey is a bit demanding (heat, hike, climbing).
The trail takes you through the Sardinian bush with stunning views. Elevation is about 700m. We left at 10.15am and reached the canyon by 11.45am. So 1h30 to go down. The trail is partly shaded but really hot in August. Easy to follow, at the beginning, you can choose between 2 equivalent paths that join about 20 min later.
When you reach the canyon, you can visit it for 5 euros. There are three consecutive zones, with increasing difficulties. They say it takes about 1h30 min to do the green and yellow zones, back and forth. Agility helps.
You can also rest at the natural pools. Amazing experience when it is so hot outside. Some shaded areas to nap.
We hiked back starting at 3pm when the trail is mostly shaded. It took us 2h. Alternatively, you can book a jeep for 15 euros per person when you buy the entrance ticket to the canyon.
As a summary, it was a great experience. It is a bit demanding due to the heat and elevation. Take about 2 or 3 liters of...
Read moreOne of the most beautiful trails in Sardegna. The descent took us around one hour, while going back around two with a few stops to enjoy gorgeous panorama and the smell of mediterranean herbs. Around two thirds of the trail is under the trees while the last piece is steeper and with a lot of small stones, so be careful and choose the good hiking shoes. When you get down, there are few natural pools with a fresh water and a fountain where you can refill your water bottle. Keep in mind that if going 600+ metres up&down is too hard for you, there is an alternative path from Dorgali (more precisely from Tiscali parking), it's longer but on a flatter terrain. Keep in mind that none at the camp base will tell you that, but you can find the trail...
Read moreGreat one day trip. There is a free parking a bit higher from the main road. From passo ghenna silana you can walk down about 4.5km to the canyoun Gorropu. There is the ticket counter (8eur adult) and you enter wonderful canyon. The visit takes about 1 hour and is really nice. There is a spring of drinking water near the entrance. You can either climb back to passo or you can order a jeep ride back. We did so as the temperature was 35 degrees. To reach the jeep departure place you need to walk another 3km, but easy path a bit downhill along the dried river. The jeep takes you to campo baso and the driver are brought back to Passo by a minivan, so they can pick up the rest of the family by own cars. The jeep back cost 18...
